The cable which allows opening of the parachute manually.

CONT

Ripcord is a part of a skydiving harness-container system; a handle attached to a steel cable ending in a closing pin. The pin keeps the container closed and keeps the spring loaded pilot chute inside. When the ripcord is pulled, the container is opened and the pilot chute is released, opening the parachute. On tandem systems the ripcord releases the 3-ring release system anchoring the bridle to the harness-container, allowing the parachute to open.

According to some sources, trepan and trephine are synonyms. But according to others, there is a difference between the trepan(drill) and the trephine, the trephine being an improvement on the trepan and consisting of a circular or cylindrical saw, with a handle like that of a gimlet, and a little sharp perforator called the center pin.

Although accidental deployments are not as common as they once were, it remains the pilots’ responsibility to check their equipment before every flight. Most accidental deployments could have been prevented if the pilot had performed a thorough preflight and maintained awareness of their parachute system. Checking the safety pin prior to launch, taking care not to snag the handle while launching or grab the wrong strap when trying to adjust the harness helps prevent accidental deployments.

No risk of accidental deployment: Unintentional deployments are too frequent, ... it is unacceptable to have safety equipment which can cause problems during a routine flight.

A T-pin is convenient for heavy pile fabrics and loose knits; the head will not disappear into or slip through these fabrics. Standard pin point is sharp; ball-points are rounded to slip between yarns, which makes them a good choice for knits.
