DEF

[An] axe ... designed specifically for cutting brush and small trees.

OBS

The handle is 20" long and the head is lightweight(it really feels as if you’re swinging just an axe handle), so it's easier to swing and less awkward than a typical axe.

OBS

The 7" replaceable blade has 5-1/2" exposed for cutting. It cuts faster with less fatigue than an ordinary axe because it weighs only about 2 lb, including the handle, and because its balance makes it ideal to use one handed while holding brush aside.

OBS

The clearing axe originates from Sweden.

Subject field(s)
  • Mountain Sports
DEF

A tool used by the rockclimbers to pound in pitons, pulling out pitons, testing old fixed pitons, placing copperheads, or placing bolts. It must have a handle which is both strong and able to damp the vibration from a blow.

CONT

Swinging a hammer while you are climbing up a rock can be exhausting. The hammer will start to feel much heavier than it did on the ground. Consequently, you should buy a hammer that is light enough to easily swing, even after you have pounded in a hundred pitons. Yet the hammer cannot be too light : it needs weight to give it enough force. Light-weight climbers find a good hammer head weight is 17-20 ounces. The handle should add no more than 8 ounces. Bigger climbers may want a more substantial hammer : 24-26 ounce hammer head will be heavy enough.

CONT

... two-piece D&I cans. Either tinplate or aluminium is used, usually on a dedicated line. In recent years, due to the uncertain economics relating to metal costs, new lines are built as "swing lines", basically capable of handing either metal. It does nevertheless require some downtime to make the change-over and lines normally operate continuously on the one metal.

This swing line will enable production of 5. 5oz and 8. 3oz slim cans, as well as standard 12oz and 16oz containers, enhancing the flexibility of the manufacturing process...
