canoe cup... [Canadian] Voyageurs and hunters travelling by canoe sometimes carried cups carved from the burls of tree trunks. These were profusely decorated with incised motifs, such as a four-leaf clover, a basket of flowers, a beaver, a snake, a mermaid and fish, a boat, or hearts. The small barrel attached to the cup with string serves as a toggle for hanging the cup from the belt. 1, record 1, English, - canoe%20cup

1, record 1, French, - tasse%20de%20voyageur

Plants with limbs that grow down, instead of up, can be spectacular. Horticulturally, the reason for this growth habit is a genetic mutation. Most plants have a central growth point that remains dominant, and the trunk and limbs grow vertically. In the weeping tree category, this growth control is interrupted. The new layer of growth is somehow superimposed over the previous layer, and is more horizontal than vertical. This growth pattern is known as plagiotropism. 1, record 3, English, - weeping%20tree

Record number: 4, Textual support number: 1 OBS
Tree wells are encountered in off-piste or ungroomed trails and on ungroomed piste boundaries. The risk of encountering a tree well is greatest during and immediately following a heavy snowstorm. Low hanging branches can further contribute to forming a tree well, as they efficiently shelter the area surrounding the trunk. Wells have been observed to be as deep as 20 feet. Wells can also occur near rocks and along streams. 2, record 4, English, - tree%20well

1, record 4, French, - trou%20de%20neige%20%C3%A0%20la%20base%20des%20arbres
