[What does one] mean by holding? In psychology, the term has a specific meaning. It describes the way another person, often an authority figure, contains and interprets what's happening in times of uncertainty. Containing refers to the ability to soothe distress and interpreting to the ability to help others make sense of a confusing predicament. Think of a CEO [chief executive officer] who, in a severe downturn, reassures employees that the company has the resources to weather the storm and most jobs will be protected, helps them interpret revenue data, and gives clear directions about what must be done to service existing clients and develop new business. 1, record 7, English, - holding

Snow Nose : Dog Nose Turning Pink. Your dog's nose is changing color and you try to understand what's happening? If your dog's nose has changed its color from black or brown to pink he might have a snow nose.... In some cases, the fading pigment is not too bad and affects only the center of the nose. In other cases, the dogs have a solid pink nose with only some tiny speckles of pigment by the time the color fading stops. Typically, there is some of the original pigment left around the nose's upper rim.... Gifts expressed in the alternative. Two or more gifts may be made to take effect alternatively, for example, in certain mutually exclusive events; thus, a gift to A or B, where A and B are donees, described or named, and mutually exclusive, is an alternative gift. In such a gift there is generally a contingency implied, even if not expressed, on the happening of which the gift is to take effect in favour of the second-named donee, and the circumstances of the gift must be ascertained before the contingency can be determined. Usually it refers to the death of the first-named donee before some particular period; for example, the death of the testator or some other period of distribution; and it is inferred that the intention of the testator is that the first donee shall take if then alive, but that the second donee is to take if the first does not survive the particular period.(Halsbury's Laws of England, 3rd ed., v. 39, 1962, p. 1048) 1, record 61, English, - alternative%20gift

2, record 61, French, - legs%20alternatif

Avalanche risk is the probability or chance of harm resulting from interactions between avalanche hazard and a specific element at risk. Exposure is about where, and for how long the element at risk is positioned in the terrain. For backcountry travel, the exposure component of risk is the single most important consideration for controlling risk. This is because a person is capable of having complete control over where and when they travel, and is therefore charged with absolute responsibility for his or her own risk. Even during periods of high avalanche hazard, a simple reduction in exposure will reduce the risk. 2, record 79, English, - avalanche%20risk

Vulnerability is a concept that expresses susceptibility to the impacts of avalanche hazard, and it must relate to a specific element at risk. An old growth tree and a person standing side by side will have very different vulnerabilities to the hazard; therefore, while the hazard may be the same, the risk to each of them will be different. The person may be susceptible to Size 2 avalanches, whereas the tree might be susceptible to only a Size 4 – thus, the person has a higher vulnerability and subsequently higher risk. 2, record 79, English, - avalanche%20risk

Lorsque l'animal est en liberté, les personnes qui se trouvent à proximité sont exposées à ce danger. Par conséquent, il existe un risque que ces personnes soient victimes d'une attaque. Merger and Acquisition Arbitrage. The most common type of risk arbitrage is the price inequalities that is created when a merger or acquisition is announced. Typically when this happens, the acquiring company's stock price usually drops in case the deal doesn’t go through, while the stock price of the company being acquired shoots up close to the offered price(usually at a significant premium to the current traded price). It is interesting to note(and the key to profiting from it) that while the stock price of the acquired company rises, it will never reach the full offered price because there is always a risk of the deal not happening. Therefore, we can take advantage of this by buying stock of the acquired company and as the deal becomes more likely, the stock will rise. 1, record 84, English, - merger%20and%20acquisition%20arbitrage

The term antistatic refers to a condition where static generation is inhibited during contact and separation with a different material. In general, antistatic carpet is any carpet product that will generate less static electricity than standard carpet. [It] is not conductive and it is not possible to ground anti-static carpet [which] usually contains bi-component yarns. The reason for specifying antistatic carpet is to establish a space that will be free of static shocks, or zaps. Most new antistatic carpet will prevent shocks as long as the relative humidity (RH) is above 25%. Antistatic carpet should not be confused with conductive or ESD [electrostatic discharge] carpet. Antistatic is not a permanent property. 1, record 97, English, - antistatic%20carpet
