HAPTIC PERCEPTION [3 records]

Record 1 2024-08-08

English

Subject field(s)
  • Applications of Automation
CONT

Different types of haptic feedback require an acquisition of environmental data by different kinds of haptic sensors. Most commonly, force torque sensors in the wrists or other joints of the robot are used. In addition, tactile input is achieved by sensor matrices based on various physical working principles. Sometimes, data inputs of depth perception and surface perception have to be combined to achieve an optimal haptic sensing.

CONT

CONT

The keyboard is ... mounted onto the main body of the piano by sliding it onto the key bed.

CONT

The haptic feedback is the sensorial perception that occurs when the pianist makes contact with a piano key or depresses the different pedals, including a wide variety of elements such as the resistance that the keys offer to be depressed, the length of the keys’ movement until they reach the key-bed, the deceleration of the keys when they reach the key-bed, the differences in resistance through the key travel, the texture of the keys’ surface, and others.

DEF

That melange of senses we lump together under the category of "touch", but "haptic" is not strictly tactile (...); haptic tasks like landing a fish or docking a molecule also use the body’s internal sense of proprioception that informs us about the position of our own limbs in relation to one another and the space around us.
