The Prince Rupert Port Authority(PRPA) is a port authority operating under the Canada Marine Act as an autonomous and commercially viable agency. PRPA has responsibility for all federally owned waterfront properties on Prince Rupert Harbour, located in and around the city of Prince Rupert on the North Coast of British Columbia. The PRPA was created on May 1, 1999, and succeeds the Prince Rupert Port Corporation(PRPC). Prince Rupert was among 8 national ports in Canada which implemented this administrative change on this date, as required by the Canada Marine Act which passed on June 11, 1998.

The Montreal Port Authority (MPA) is an autonomous federal agency created under the terms of the Canada Marine Act. It does everything in its power to make the Port of Montreal as competitive as possible, and from this perspective provides first-rate facilities to sea and land carriers, to terminal operators and to shippers.

On March 1, 1999, pursuant to the new Canada Marine Act, the name and status of the Montreal Port Corporation were changed to the Montreal Port Authority(MPA). The transition from the Montreal Port Corporation is facilitated by the fact that the enterprise has already been operating in a commercial, efficient and profitable manner since at least its founding as a local port corporation in 1983 in accordance with the Canada Port Authorities Act, which had replaced the National Harbours Board Act of 1936, the Government Harbours and Piers Act and the Harbour Commissions Act of 1964.

On March 1, 1999, the Halifax Port Authority(HPA) succeeded the Halifax Port Corporation. Halifax was one of the first of 18 Canadian ports to implement this administrative change as required by the Canada Marine Act(Bill C-9), which was passed on June 11, 1998. As an Agent of the Crown under the direction of the Minister of Transport, the Halifax Port Authority is responsible for administering Halifax Harbour.
