A buoyant unit used to give lift or to mark the position of a net, or both.

CONT

The type of float used depends on the depth at which the net is to be fished and the local availability of materials. For surface use, wood, cork, foam plastic, sealed plastic or glass bottles are common. For bottom nets, spherical glass, hard plastic or even metal floats are needed in order to withstand the high water pressures involved.

A cake dummy is usually made of hard foam, although other materials such as cardboard or plastic may be used. Just like a real cake, a cake dummy can be round, square, rectangular, or just about any shape you can imagine. The more strange the shape of the cake, the easier it is to use a cake dummy. In cakes used for display or in some decorating competitions, a cake dummy can save the decorator time and money.
