DEF

That part of a landscape referring to trees, plant materials and animals as opposed to non living elements as rock, brick, wood, etc. which are part of the hard landscape.

CONT

Sculpture in the landscape has been used in the landscape since the most ancient of times. It has been used to define the edges of outdoor "rooms", to provide a terminus to a visual axis, and act as a subject of private contemplation. Topiary(the "sculpting" of plant material) aside, hard sculpture provides a pleasing contrast to the soft landscape.

Stakes, posts, and pylons(in increasing size/length), possibly with permeating adhesive, will be required to affix various items to the Phobos surface.... Hard landscape materials include paving, walls, fences, screens, site furniture, water features, signage and site lighting. To contribute to a successful site development, these materials must be planned in conjunction with soft landscape elements like lawns and plants. Landscape maintenance refers to the general upkeep of exterior site spaces, including both hard and plant materials. The initial maintenance program on a site is the contractor's responsibility. A maintenance agreement for the period of construction and after is usually included in the tender documents as part of the landscape contract. It continues usually for four to six weeks after the project is finished and includes a one-year replacement guarantee for plant material. After this period, maintenance becomes the owner's responsibility.

"hard landscaping": That branch of landscaping dealing with construction materials which are used to enhance the beauty of the greenery. For example, the artful use of interlocking paving stones in landscaping design. Opposed to "soft landscaping", which concerns the vegetation (plants, flowers, bushes, etc. ...).

OBS
