HARD LAW [6 records]

Record 1 2014-04-11

English

Subject field(s)
  • Security Devices
  • Emergency Management
CONT

The devices used to define a soft perimeter vary. Because the perimeter is soft, it does not limit access the same as the hard perimeter. As such, the soft perimeter may use standard traffic control devices in conjunction with law enforcement support to control access. For the G-20 Summit, the soft perimeter allowed pedestrian traffic as well as public transportation(i. e., buses, taxis, and functional needs transportation services) to enter through checkpoints.

English

Subject field(s)
  • Nuclear Physics
CONT

Elastic collision law. An important detail which has not been discussed carefully enough in the literature is the collision law for particle–particle and particle–wall collisions in the presence of a deforming particle shape or deforming wall. The collision law that we use is an elastic one, in the following sense : linear andangular momentum are conserved, and the direction of the relative normal surface-to-surface velocityv[ cross-radial] at the point ofcontact is reversed upon collision(but the magnitude is unchanged). It is most convenient to consider binary collisions only and then just take the limit that the ‘‘mass’’ of a hard wall goes to infinity.

OBS

DEF

An optional form of marriage which is harder to enter and harder to leave than the usual sort. It requires pre-marital counselling, and it allows divorce only under tight conditions : abandonment, two years separation, adultery, physical or sexual abuse, or if a spouse gets sentenced in court to hard labour or death. Concept passed into law in Louisiana on August 15, 1997.

DEF
