English

Subject field(s)
  • Orthoses
  • Prostheses
  • The Eye
DEF

A rigid contact lens that contains one or more components in the contact lens polymer in sufficient concentration to permit oxygen transmission through the contact lens.

OBS

Glasses and contact lenses are considered to be either visual orthotic devices or visual prosthetic devices.

OBS

rigid gas-permeable contact lens; RGP contact lens: terms and definition standardized by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).

French

Domaine(s)
  • Orthèses
  • Prothèses
  • Oeil
DEF

Key term(s)
  • lentille de contact rigide perméable au gaz
  • lentille de contact dure perméable au gaz

DEF

Hard lens which allows passage through the material of all, or a substantial part, of the oxygen required for corneal metabolism.

OBS

gas permeable hard lens; gas permeable rigid lens : terms and definition standardized by ISO.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Troubles de la vision
  • Verres d'optique

CONT

Hard Resin(CR-39 [trade name]) or Plastic Lenses. Most people refer to this lens type as Plastic Lenses. CR-39 is a trade name used for conventional plastic lenses. The chemical name is allyl diglycol carbonate. This is what the majority of prescriptions are made of. It is available with a scratch resistant coating which helps prevent hair line scratches.

OBS

The name CR-39 is an abbreviation for Columbia Resin no. 39 because it was actually the 39th resin formula developed by the Columbia Laboratories.

Key term(s)
  • CR-39 monomer
  • Columbia Resin 39

DEF

English

Subject field(s)
  • Photography
DEF

A hard color filter or lens, that allows the transmission of specific wavelengths(the desired color) and reflects all others, unlike traditional filters that absorb the unwanted wavelengths(all other colors).

CONT

Dichroic filters produce the purest in color saturation while absorbing very little heat. These types of filters are ideal for color blending or mixing with other filters or lenses. Dichroic filters are an integral part of automated fixtures when only a limited number of filters can be accommodated inside their compact housings.

Domaine(s)
  • Photographie
DEF

Subject field(s)
  • Visual Disorders
  • Optical Glass
DEF

Contact lens which, in its final form and under normal condition, retains its form without support.

OBS

Its plastic is composed of a material called Methyl Methacrylate commercially known as lucite or plexiglass. They are ground to specification on a lathe. A plastic button is cut off from a long plastic rod and a back curvature is scooped out according to the measurements that the fitter has taken of the cornea. The curvature of the cornea and the curvature of the lens must correspond exactly.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Troubles de la vision
  • Verres d'optique
DEF

CONT

Practically, this is a rather hard condition for the VUV monochromator for which conventional imaging systems(lens or mirrors) cannot be used.

OBS

A method for determining the relative sensitivity of a vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) monochromator is described for the wavelength region from 200 to 1200 A.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Instruments et appareillages médicaux
CONT

OBS

(...) "V.U.V." (Vacuum ultraviolet : ultra violet à vide, c'est-à-dire non transmis par l'air).
