When hard braking is applied for slowing down or stopping after an aborted takeoff or emergency stop situation, the tire is locked up and can’t rotate, causing rapid heat buildup. When the tire begins to smoke, rubber debris build up under the tire. As the skid continues, more and more debris cause a barrier to form against the water, preventing it from escaping past the tire. A seal has now been created... heating the water under the tire to a point where steam exists. The steam is strong enough to support the tire and prevent runway contact. Should the skid continue, the tire enters reverted rubber state as more heat, steam and rubber debris continue the process. 1, record 2, English, - reverted%20rubber%20hydroplaning

Elastic collision law. An important detail which has not been discussed carefully enough in the literature is the collision law for particle–particle and particle–wall collisions in the presence of a deforming particle shape or deforming wall. The collision law that we use is an elastic one, in the following sense : linear andangular momentum are conserved, and the direction of the relative normal surface-to-surface velocityv[ cross-radial] at the point ofcontact is reversed upon collision(but the magnitude is unchanged). It is most convenient to consider binary collisions only and then just take the limit that the ‘‘mass’’ of a hard wall goes to infinity. 1, record 9, English, - elastic%20collision%20law

An anti-bird roosting device for protecting an area, comprising at least a pair of cooperating base elements mounted on the area to be protected, and a plurality of projecting spikes, supported on the base elements and projecting away therefrom into a space above the area to be protected. The spikes are provided in a pattern of interspersed combinations of vertical, obtuse and acute angle-forming projections, in a high spike density that prevents roosting in the protected space. Thus, each point in the area to be protected is defended by more than one spike, each spike coming from a different direction, so as to cross-defend each other, creating a perimeter envelope defense of the air volume surrounding the base elements. Each device is easily and inexpensively prepared as a continuous mesh, whose dimensions can be constructed in standard sizes or in accordance with the needs of the user. The element diameter is typically approximately two millimeters. The small element diameter makes the entire device hard to see from a distance so that it does not detract from the building's aesthetics. 1, record 13, English, - anti%2Dbird%20roosting%20device

The [linguistic] unease was enough to lead voters in three states--Florida, Arizona and Colorado--to support English-as-the-official-language propositions, bringing the total of such states to 17. It's hard to know what to make of the trend. Is it based on the fear that America will go the way of Quebec, where aspirants to public office must speak both English and French... But then I look at Miami, where the disadvantages are more likely to accrue to those who cannot speak Spanish, where it is not difficult to imagine a successful mayoral campaign being undertaken by a candidate who speaks little or no English, and I wonder if those who fear the Quebecking of sections of America may not just have a point.(The Guardian, 8 Jan. 1989, p. 19;5). 1, record 15, English, - Quebecking

The acquisition of a vacuum plasma spray forming system for mechanical and industrial engineering.... The project objective was to procure engineering services for the fabrication of a vacuum plasma spray forming system used as a research tool in spray coating research. Plasma spraying has the advantage of spraying materials with a very high melting point, such as refractory metals like tungsten, molybdenum and ceramics like zirconia. VPSF process enables the manufacture of parts from hard to machine materials such as ceramics, carbides, super alloys, etc. Very often, the VPSF is the only process for production of complex shape parts(such as rocket nozzles) from hard and brittle materials. 2, record 17, English, - vacuum%20plasma%20spray%20forming

2, record 17, French, - formage%20par%20projection%20plasma%20sous%20vide

A hard, spherical aggregate of many very small diamond crystals, usually cryptocrystalline, arranged radially and more or less concentrically around a central point. Because of their structure, ballas are classed as industrials, which are occasionally used in diamond-drill bits and other diamond tools. Also incorrectly used as a name applied to rounded, single-crystal forms of diamond. 1, record 24, English, - ballas

The Detonation Pressure is a measure of the pressure in the detonation wave front. It is a function of the(velocity of detonation) and the density of an explosive, and is therefore a very important property, especially in hard rock. At the point where the detonation wave has just completed its passage through the column of explosive and the gases have expanded to fill the borehole and are available to commence their work, the borehole pressure is at its peak value. 2, record 26, English, - detonation%20pressure

2, record 26, French, - pression%20de%20d%C3%A9tonation
