Record number: 2, Textual support number: 1 DEF
An instrument combining a pulsed laser transmitter and optical receiver (usually a telescope) with an electronic signal processing unit used for the detection and ranging of various distant targets in the atmosphere, analogous to the principles of operation of microwave radar. 6, record 2, English, - lidar
Record number: 2, Textual support number: 1 CONT
The lidar technique operates on the same principle as radar; in fact, it is sometimes called laser radar. The principal difference between lidar and radar is the wavelength of the radiation used. Radar uses wavelengths in the radio band whereas lidar uses light, that is usually generated by lasers in modern lidar systems. 7, record 2, English, - lidar
Record number: 2, Textual support number: 2 CONT
There are three basic generic types of lidar : range finders, DIAL, and Doppler lidars. Rande finder lidars are the simplest lidars. They are used to measure the distance from the lidar instrument to a solid or hard target Differential Absorption Lidar(DIAL) is used to measure chemical concentrations(such as ozone, water vapor, pollutants) in the atmosphere. Doppler lidar is used to measure the velocity of a target High-resolution DEMs with vertical accuracy as good as 10 cm can be created with Lidar. Lidar is also better able to map bare earth elevations in forested or vegetated areas than other methods because only a single laser pulse needs to be able to reach between trees and the ground. 8, record 2, English, - lidar

Doppler lidar is used to measure the velocity of a target. When the light transmitted from the lidar hits a target moving towards or away from the lidar, the wavelength of the light reflected/scattered off the target will be changed slightly. This is known as a Doppler shift-hence Doppler Lidar. If the target is moving away from the lidar, the return light will have a longer wavelength(sometimes referred to as a red shift), if moving towards the lidar the return light will be at a shorter wavelength(blue shifted). The target can be either a hard target or an atmospheric target-the atmosphere contains many microscopic dust and aerosol particles which are carried by the wind. 3, record 4, English, - Doppler%20lidar

Extremely fine nanoceramics which are uniform composites much smoother than the clay that potters bake may be the answer to long-standing problems in engine construction and design. They may also be used in false teeth, industrial drills, laser printers, and aircraft bodies.
