A... smooth, hard, high-density laminated board formed by the compression of layers of pulp made from wood, textile, or waste paper, used in small manufactured articles, light furniture, and as a separator or insulator in electrical equipment.

OBS

pressboard: designation standardized by ISO.

English

Subject field(s)
  • By-Products (Textile Industries)
  • Thread Spinning (Textiles)
DEF

Textile waste from processes prior to spinning that is usually reworkable.

CONT

There are two classes of waste, known as ’hard’ and 'soft, ’and their treatment differs according to the class. Hard waste is essentially that from spinning frames, reeling and winding machines and all other waste of a thready nature. Soft waste comes from earlier processes where the fibres have relatively little twist and are neither felted nor compacted.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Sous-produits (Industries du textile)
  • Filature (Textiles)
OBS

déchets : terme inusité au singulier.

Record 4 2012-07-10

English

Subject field(s)
  • Space Exploration Equipment and Tools
CONT

Officially known as the Extravehicular Mobility Unit or EMU, the suit has two main components : the Space Suit Assembly(SSA) and the Primary Life Support System(PLSS). The SSA [space suit assembly] includes :[1] urine collection device : collects body wastes, which are later transferred to the Shuttle's waste management system. [2] bioinstrumentation system : monitors the astronaut's heart rate during spacewalks. [3] liquid cooling and ventilation garment : a "long-john" made of spandex, containing 90 metres of small tubes that circulate cooling water over the body. [4] communications carrier assembly : a "Snoopy" cap containing headphones and microphones for two-way communications. Newer models allow up to five people to talk together. [5] lower torso assembly : the pants and attached boots... [6] hard upper torso(HUT) : the top half of the suit, made of fibreglass, which supports the Primary Life Support System. [7] gloves : the heavy gloves have rubber tips to increase dexterity.... [8] helmet and visor assembly...

CONT

The spacesuit [is a] garment that provides pressure, breathing air, fluids and nutrients, waste removal, and protection against the space environment, and that enables a human to move and operate in the space environment.

OBS

space suit assembly; SSA: term and abbreviation officially approved by the International Space Station official approval Group (ISSOAG).

Key term(s)
  • spacesuit assembly

Domaine(s)
  • Équipement et outillage d'exploration spatiale
CONT

English

Subject field(s)
  • Chemical Engineering
  • Atomic Physics
DEF

A technique … developed in the early seventies in SAL [Safeguards Analytical Laboratory] on the basis of procedures of ORNL (Oak Ridge National Laboratory) and LANL (Los Alamos National Laboratory) as a tool to adsorb nanogram quantities of Uranium and Plutonium from input solutions on single beads … of an ion exchange resin.

OBS

It is presently being studied and adapted to perform reasonable analyses of low and lowest amounts of Uranium and Plutonium in samples which had-due to several national regulations-to be diluted to an extent where the conventional analytical procedures are very hard to perform(e. g. "high active waste samples").

French

Domaine(s)
  • Génie chimique
  • Physique atomique
CONT
