P. cineraria is a genuine multipurpose species. It yields excellent firewood and produces high-quality charcoal. The wood is hard and reasonably durable with a variety of small timber uses. The foliage provides nutritious fodder, maximum yields being produced when the trees are pollarded on a three-year rotation. Palatability is good. The pods also provide good fodder, and when young, are a popular vegetable in the human diet in parts of India and Pakistan. In times of famine the bark of the tree is pounded into flour and made into cakes. The bark yields edible gums, is used locally in leather tanning, and is reported to be used to treat scorpion stings and snake bites. The flowers are valuable in honey production. 2, record 52, English, - multipurpose%20species

A marble slab is the perfect surface on which to knead or roll dough, work fondant, or quickly set molten candies. Its cooler-than-room temperature hinders pastry or bread dough from sticking, so less flour is needed to create a friction blanket; less is then incorporated into the dough and the ideal fat-to-flour ratio is maintained. For the confectioner, marble’s cool, polished surface speeds peanut brittle’s or caramel’s even crystallization and is excellent for scraping chocolate curls or folding fondant to aerate it. 2, record 55, English, - pastry%20board

The main source of sandalwood is Santalum album, a small evergreen tree native to India. The heartwood of S. album is yellow-brown, very hard, and close grained. It is made odorous by the presence of an oil, which is even more abundant in the roots... Red sandalwood is obtained from Pterocarpus santalinus, a small leguminous tree found in southern India, Ceylon, and the Philippines. This wood is used in making a dye that gives wool a red-brown color. 2, record 67, English, - sandalwood

4, record 67, French, - santal
