Repeated loading of metal to stresses lower than the ultimate strength is called fatigue loading and the fracture which results is a fatigue failure.

Fatigue failures occur because of localized hardening and embrittling of the metal specimen which results from the repeated plastic deformation caused by the applied load.

L'antimoine, sous sa forme la plus courante, est un solide blanc d'argent ressemblant aux métaux, mais cassant [...]. Au point de vue chimique, il est intermédiaire entre les métaux et les non-métaux : c'est un métalloïde ou semi-métal. [...] Numéro atomique : 51. Masse atomique : 121,75. [...] États d'oxydation : -3, +3, et +5. [...] Isotopes : 116, 121, 122, 123 et 124. [...] L'antimoine se trouve dans la nature sous forme d'oxydes, mais son principal minerai est la stibine, sulfure de formule Sb2S3.

[...] les Anciens [...] confondaient [l'antimoine] avec son sulfure, auquel les Grecs donnaient le nom de «stimmi», et les Romains celui de «stibium». La facilité avec laquelle il s'allie à l'or lui faisait attribuer des qualités nobles, d'où son nom de «régule» (petit roi).
