HARDENING RATE [7 records]

Record 1 2016-03-07

English

Subject field(s)
  • Steel
  • Surface Treatment of Metals
  • Metal Quenching
OBS

flame hardening : A method for local surface hardening of steel by passing an oxyacetylene or similar flame over the work at a predetermined rate.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Acier
  • Traitements de surface des métaux
  • Trempe (Métal)
OBS

Record 2 2016-02-25

English

Subject field(s)
  • Metal Quenching
  • Steel
DEF

The incomplete hardening of steel due to quenching from the austenitizing temperature at a rate slower than the critical cooling rate for the particular steel, resulting in the formation of one or more transformation products in addition to martensite.

CONT

Although [austenitic manganese steels] are brittle in their as-cast condition, their high toughness is obtained after a solution annealing and quenching heat treatment. Even with these improvements, thick sections and slack quenching can result in materials with inadequate properties that lead to expensive failures in the field.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Trempe (Métal)
  • Acier
CONT

Record 3 2011-04-28

English

Subject field(s)
  • Concrete Construction
DEF

A substance added to concrete, mortar, or grout, to increase the rate of hydration of a hydraulic cement, to shorten the time of set, or to increase the rate of hardening.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Bétonnage
DEF

OBS

accélérateur : Terme normalisé par l'AFNOR.

Record 4 2010-05-27

English

Subject field(s)
  • Foundry Practice
DEF

A fine mixture of ferrite and cementite produced either by regulating the rate of cooling of steel or by tempering steel after hardening.

OBS

The first type is very fine pearlite that is difficult to resolve under the microscope; the second type is tempered martensite.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Fonderie
DEF

Key term(s)
  • martensite revenue
  • bainite revenue

Record 5 1997-06-02

English

Subject field(s)
  • Equipment and Plant (Metallurgy)
DEF

A mill for cold rolling of sheet or strip.

OBS

cold rolling or cold working : deforming metal plastically under conditions of temperature and strain rate that induce strain hardening. Usually, but not necessarily, conducted at room temperature.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Équipement et matériels (Métallurgie)

Record 6 1994-11-21

English

Subject field(s)
  • Types of Concrete
CONT

Setting time and hardening rate are dependent on many hydration reactions, and on the establishment of chemical links between particles.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Sortes de béton
CONT
