HARDWARE PROGRAMMABLE [6 records]

Record 1 1998-12-03

English

Subject field(s)
  • Information Processing (Informatics)
  • IT Security
  • Internet and Telematics
CONT

Software stored in read-only memory(ROM) or programmable ROM. Easier to change than hardware but harder than software stored on disc, firmware is often responsible for the behavior of a system when it is first switched on.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Traitement de l'information (Informatique)
  • Sécurité des TI
  • Internet et télématique
CONT

Record 2 1997-12-15

English

Subject field(s)
  • IT Security
DEF

A cryptographic key that can be generated by the information system user himself.

CONT

The PQR 512 RSA chip is a full CMOS hardware implementation primarily intended to support fast execution of the RSA(Rivest, Shamir and Adleman) public key cryptographic algorithm. The PQR 512 chip is designed to efficiently perform calculation in large "finite fields". Features : Low cost RSA processor, Small Size(QFP 100 package). Designed to allow easy integration in microprocessor based systems. Programmable key, modules and exponent length up to 513 bit. PQR 512 chips can be combined to support key lengths up to 1033 bit.

Subject field(s)
  • Artificial Intelligence
  • Applications of Automation
DEF

This term was coined in this book and attempts to show the strong similarity between hardware and software systems. A programmable piece of hardware would be a machine that could take on different configurations based on electrical and mechanical adjustments that tailor it to suit an application.

English

Subject field(s)
  • Computer Hardware
  • Computer Display Technology
CONT

Designers... face a trade-off : At one extreme they can build fully programmable chips with no graphics-specific functions embedded in hardware. The buyer must implement the chip functions himself. At the other extreme the chips can be totally fixed-function, with no programming flexibility.
