Modern heap leach pads are large engineered structures, lined with an impermeable layer of plastic(referred to as a geosynthetic membrane) and placed over a prepared surface that is typically a compacted soil layer. Ore is placed(heaped) on the lined pad and treated with chemicals to dissolve(leach) a metal of interest while protecting the environment. The plastic liner placed at the bottom and around the sides of the pad prevents chemicals from leaking into the soil and contaminating groundwater. The plastic utilized for these liners must be capable of withstanding the excessive weight of stacked ore, the continuous application of corrosive chemicals, and harsh weather conditions over the long term. 3, record 1, English, - heap%20leach%20pad

2, record 9, French, - d%C3%A9prot%C3%A9inisation

Winterkill is the most common type of fish kill. When severe, it has devastating effects on fish populations and fishing quality. Winterkill occurs during especially long, harsh winters... Winterkill begins with distressed fish gasping for air at holes in the ice and ends with large numbers of dead fish which bloat as the water warms in early spring.... During periods of prolonged ice cover, the lake is sealed off from the atmosphere and cannot be recharged with oxygenated air. Furthermore, ice and snow reduce the amount of sunlight reaching aquatic plants, thereby reducing photosynthesis and oxygen production. 4, record 12, English, - fish%20winterkill

lis pendens(L. "a pending lawsuit") … is a useful LATINISM that has given its name to a notice required in some jurisdictions to warn all persons that certain property is the subject matter of litigation, and that any interests acquired during the pendency of the suit must be subject to the outcome of the litigation. Traditionally this notice was called the notice of lis pendens, but 20th century American lawyers have shortened the phrase to merely lis pendens. E. g., "The defendant says that the plaintiff's harsh conduct in holding up a whole subdivision by the lis pendens in this action disentitles him to relief. 3, record 40, French, - rumination%20suicidaire

These include harsh climatic conditions, long distances, wide disparities in standards-of-living, environmental challenges includings problems with nuclear waste and waste water management, and insufficient transport and border crossing facilities. For hundreds of years, the French horses bred with little influence from outside breeds. They eventually developed into their own distinct breed-the Canadian Horse or Cheval Canadien. Because they evolved under the adverse conditions of harsh weather, scarce food, and hard work, the Canadian Horse remains the sturdiest and most acclimatized horse in Canada today. They are tough, strong horses, tolerant of inclement weather conditions, and are extremely “easy keepers”. Because of these traits, the Canadian Horse is often referred to as “The Little Iron Horse”. 3, record 67, English, - Canadian%20horse

1, record 67, French, - cheval%20canadien

The project is named the Autonomous Space Processor for Orbital Debris(ASPOD) and is a NASA/Universities Space Research Association(USRA) sponsored design project. The development of ASPOD and the students’ abilities in designing and building a prototype spacecraft are the ultimate goals of this project. This year's focus entailed the development of a secondary robotic arm and end-effector to work in tandem with an existent arm in the removal of orbital debris. The new arm features the introduction of composite materials and a linear drive system, thus producing a light-weight and more accurate prototype. The main characteristic of the end-effector design is that it incorporates all of the motors and gearing internally, thus not subjecting them to the harsh space environment. Furthermore, the arm and the end-effector are automated by a control system with positional feedback. This system is composed of magnetic and optical encoders connected to a 486 PC via two servo-motor controller cards. Programming a series of basic routines and sub-routines has allowed the ASPOD prototype to become more autonomous. The new system is expected to perform specified tasks with a positional accuracy of 0. 5 cm. 2, record 72, English, - autonomous%20space%20processor%20for%20orbital%20debris

The GRL "remix baking test" gives a satisfactory differentiation between flours of varying protein content and protein quality. It does tend, however, to be rather harsh on weaker flours which do not have good mixing tolerance. Because of the remixing stage, the results are not sensitive to small differences in oxidation requirement between flours; a single level of 15 parts per million works well for most flour samples. 1, record 79, English, - remix%20baking%20test

1, record 79, French, - essai%20de%20panification%20%C3%A0%20double%20p%C3%A9trissage

"Tired". A wine that is not holding up well. The old zip has gone. Past its prime, the wine lacks vitality and muscle to sustain it. The fruit has all but vanished. Tannin and/or acid are petering out. The wine cannot develop or improve. A tired wine is sometimes attributable to old age, sometimes not: poor storage, sloppy vinification methods, faulty handling along the line of distribution could be the cause, among other factors.
