Through the Shellfish Water Quality Protection Program, Environment Canada is responsible for monitoring bacterial water quality in shellfish growing areas. These surveys represent a substantial commitment of effort and resources to ensure the proper evaluation of approximately 25, 000 km of Atlantic coastline. Water surveys are used to determine the classification of coastal waters as to their suitability for the harvesting of molluscan shellfish. The surveys are based on the sanitary and bacteriological water quality conditions in the area. The Shellfish Water Quality Protection Program also promotes pollution prevention, remediation and restoration of shellfish growing areas. 1, record 14, English, - Shellfish%20Water%20Quality%20Protection%20Program

The British Columbia Trappers Association was formed in 1945 as an association of registered trappers. It is the oldest trappers association in Canada. In order to protect species from over harvesting, in 1926, the Province was divided into registered traplines. Traplines are then sold to a trapper so that he/she is the only person with the right to trap furbearing animals inside this area. 1, record 17, English, - BC%20Trappers%20Association
