Round/Globular ... this type of plant material form has a distinct rounded or spherical shape. European beech (Fagus sylvatica), silver linden (Tilia tomentosa), Japanese maple (Acer palmatum), Cornelian cherry dogwood (Cornus mas), and Indian laurel fig (Ficus microcarpa) are all examples of globular plant form. Rounded plant forms are one of the most numerous types of plant forms and therefore typically constitute the majority of plants used in a design composition ... rounded plants are nondirectional and neutral in their ability to lead the eye. Therefore globular plants can be easily used to give a design unity by their repetition throughout the composition. They can serve as the neutral, soft plant form against which the other more striking forms are opposed. 1, record 2, English, - round%20plant%20form

The rationale for multi-target drugs has been strengthened both on theoretical and empirical grounds. Serious diseases that are intractable to treatment were found to have multiple pathogenic factors and examples of successful drugs were shown to affect multiple disease targets. Leonard Adleman, a mathematician at the University of Southern California, combined microscopic bits of DNA to calculate a well-known computer problem. A DNA computer processes each step comparatively slowly, but it can work on billions of sites at once in a cell or a test tube. The standard computer problem that Adleman tackled in his lab is one that seeks a route connecting seven cities, some of which have no direct connections between them, in such a way that a hypothetical traveller arrives at each city only once without backtracking. He solved this puzzle by treating the chemical units of DNA as computing symbols, then assigning a series of symbols to each "city. "He then used DNAs natural affinity to join its strands together to create possible city-to-city sequences. In a test tube, very short bits of DNA zipped on to other bits, until all possible routes to the seven cities were assembled very rapidly. This sorting of codes serves as a type of computation even though the DNA was doing nothing unusual. 1, record 7, English, - DNA%20computer

By 1957 he had patented a method of using computers to produce maps from aerial photographs automatically corrected for the curvature of the Earth and atmospheric distortion. The first prototype was built in 1963 using the analogue computer then available... In the late 1970s(digital) microcomputers made the Helava system much cheaper, and several hundred plotters have been built. 2, record 13, French, - syst%C3%A8me%20Helava

[A] significant adsorptive characteristic is possessed not alone by carbons, charcoal and chars, but also by such materials as zeolite, silica, alumina, mica and some other. All these differ widely in the number and kinds of substances they adsorb, as well as in the amount of sorbed substances they will retain. In general, the silicaneous, metallic oxides and active earth types of adsorbents are electrically polar-that is, their molecular structure contains an unsymmetrical electron distribution. Since polar substances have strong attraction for one another and since water is highly polar, the polar adsorbents mentioned above retain water in preference to most other fluids and are, therefore, incapable of adsorbing non-aqueous gases efficiently from a humid atmosphere. For use in air conservation, however, which requires a sorbent to extract very small quantities of a very numerous variety of gases and vapors from either dry or humid air during a very brief interval of contact, non-polar adsorbents such as specially processed carbon of high activity, dense structure and extreme relative hardness have been found to be adequate. Activated carbon, being non-polar and hence electronically symmetrical in structure, has no particular affinity for moisture and preferentially adsorbs organic gases and vapors. 4, record 15, English, - nonpolar%20adsorbent

Polar compounds are used as additives in many petroleum products. Polarity gives certain molecules a strong affinity for solid surfaces; as lubricant additives(oiliness agents), such molecules plate out to form a tenacious, friction-reducing film. Some polar molecules are oil-soluble at one end and water-soluble at the other end; in lubricants, they act as emulsifiers, helping to form stable oil-water emulsions. Such lubricants are said to have good metal-wetting properties. Polar compounds with a strong attraction for solid contaminants act as detergents in engine oils by keeping contaminants finely dispersed. 2, record 18, English, - polar%20compound
