Record 1 2013-11-19

English

Subject field(s)
  • Titles of Monographs
  • Records Management (Management)
OBS

Multi-Institutional Disposition Authorities(MIDA) are issued by the National Archivist to provide direction to government institutions subject to the National Archives of Canada Act regarding the disposal of records common to all or a multiple number of institutions. They are designed to eliminate the need for government institutions to prepare individual submissions for and negotiate agreements with the National Archivist for records which have similar administrative or operational status.

Domaine(s)
  • Titres de monographies
  • Gestion des documents (Gestion)
OBS

English

Subject field(s)
  • Aerodynamics and Theory of Gases
  • Wind Energy
DEF

A speed-up effect caused by the pressure difference occurring across hills and ridges, allowing a wind turbine that is placed on top and facing the wind, to capture higher kinetic energy from the wind.

CONT

Speed Up Effects : Hill Effect. A common way of siting wind turbines is to place them on hills or ridges overlooking the surrounding landscape. In particular, it is always an advantage to have as wide a view as possible in the prevailing wind direction in the area. On hills, one may also experience that wind speeds are higher than in the surrounding area.

Domaine(s)
  • Théorie des gaz et aérodynamique
  • Énergie éolienne
DEF

English

Subject field(s)
  • Simulation (Cybernetic Systems)
  • Security Devices
  • CBRNE Operations
OBS

... in order to best simulate real chemical warfare conditions, where the simultaneous use of various detection capabilities will be likely, all [chemical agent sensor simulator systems] shall have common simulants and control technologies. Furthermore, the simulators [should] be able to account for atmospheric conditions, especially wind speed and direction, when conducting outdoor survey exercises.

  • Simulation (Systèmes cybernétiques)
  • Dispositifs de sécurité
  • Opérations CBRNE
OBS

Record 4 2012-01-06

English

Subject field(s)
  • Sports Equipment and Accessories
  • Skydiving, Paragliding and Hang Gliding
DEF

A large, flat, usually delta-shaped motorless aircraft with an attached harness or seat, designed to carry a person or two people through the air for a short while.

CONT

Hang gliders can be rigid or semi-rigid. Semi-rigid, which is the most common type, have aluminium spars and battens in their wings, but are covered in a tight sheath of Dacron cloth. Rigid hang gliders are made of hard, composite materials such as glass fibre and are becoming increasingly popular. In both cases, the pilot is suspended in a harness beneath the glider in a face down position and controls the direction and speed by moving a triangular control frame to shift his or her weight beneath the wing.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Équipement et accessoires de sport
  • Parachutisme, parapente et deltaplane
CONT
