... one reason that bone health is difficult to maintain is that the skeleton is simultaneously serving two different functions that are in competition with each other. First, bone must be responsive to changes in mechanical loading or weight bearing, both of which require strong bones that have ample supplies of calcium and phosphorus. When these elements are in short supply the regulating hormones take them out of the bone to serve vital functions in other systems of the body. Thus the skeleton can be likened to a bank where we can deposit calcium or phosphorus and then withdraw them later in times of need. However, too many withdrawals weaken the bone and can lead to the most common bone disorder, fractures. 3, record 1, English, - bone%20health

A number of type and phase separations have been made in the field mapping of these soils. In the major part of the area, the surface and subsoil textures are clay and the soil is designated as Bearbrook clay. The Bearbrook clay-sand spot phase, however, includes those areas that have local dumps of sand, 30 or more feet in diameter, scattered over the clay flats. These sand pockets are smooth and not very noticeable except on cultivation. The sands are acid in reaction and poorly drained. The Bearbrook fine sandy loam is the designation given to areas having a 6 to 8 inch deposit of fine sand over the clay. 1, record 6, English, - Brookston%20clay

Mineralogy and geology of the Maungaparerua halloysite deposit in New Zealand.... The halloysite deposit was formed by hydrothermal alteration of rhyolite flow rocks. Superimposed on the hydrothermally altered halloysite is deep intensive surficial weathering resulting from the humid climate on the extreme tip of the North Island. The deposit has been drilled and the cores have been analyzed mineralogically and chemically. Drilling has shown that the... altered rocks contain about 50% quartz and fine amorphous silica and 50% of a mix of halloysite, kaolinite, and allophane with a small amount of plagioclase feldspar in the coarse fraction. The upper 8-30 m, with an average of 15 m, of the halloysite alteration deposit consists of relatively soft clay. 2, record 16, English, - alteration%20deposit

The world's largest, single lead-zinc orebody occurs at Sullivan, British Columbia. The host rocks are late Precambrian argillites.... This deposit appears to be syngenetic and the lead-zinc minerals form an integral part of the rocks in which they occur. They are affected by sedimentary deformation such as slumping, pull apart structures, load casting, etc.... Beneath the central part of the orebody there is a roughly funnel-shaped zone of brecciation and tourmalinization which extends downwards... In places, the matrix of the breccia is heavily mineralized with pyrrhotite... This zone may have been a channelway up which solutions moved to debouch on to the seafloor, to precipitate the ore minerals among the accumulating sediment. If this was the case, then Sullivan could be called a sedimentary-exhalative deposit. 5, record 24, English, - sedimentary%20exhalative%20deposit

The first CANPASS project underway was CANPASS-Highway. The CANPASS-Highway program will eventually be a national version of the PACE(Peace Arch Crossing Entry) project in B. C. which combines pre-approval processing, express lanes, a self-declaration card, and an automated billing system to speed up border crossings. Currently PACE users, for a $25 annual fee, receive a special windshield decal authenticity. Users deposit declaration cards in a box at the inspection booth before proceeding. Duties are charged to a credit card. Approximately 60, 000 vehicles use the PACE express lane to ensure that only approved travellers use it, and that those who do comply with the terms and conditions of the program. If users don’t comply, their privileges are withdrawn and appropriate penalties applied. Until now the CANPASS-Highway system for pre-approved travellers has been available only at four border crossings in British Columbia. However, down the road(so to speak) other suitable Canadian border crossing sites will have CANPASS-Highway capabilities. 2, record 36, English, - Peace%20Arch%20Crossing%20Entry

A.E. 4, record 48, French, - g%C3%AEte%20pneumatolytique

The level deposit required each year to reach 1 by a given year. The reciprocal of the compounding factor for 1 per annum. Generally obtained from a set of compounding and discounting tables. This factor permits calculating the equal installment that must be set aside each year, to be invested at compound interest, in order to have a predetermined sum at a given time. It is primarily used to determine how much must be put into a fund in order to have recovered the amount of an investment at the end of its useful life. 2, record 51, English, - sinking%20fund%20factor

1, record 51, Spanish, - factor%20del%20fondo%20de%20amortizaci%C3%B3n

When deciding the kinds of records which are suitable for deposit in a records centre, and the procedures by which they should be transferred there, it is worth considering a widely accepted theory that defines three stages in the life of papers produced by any organization : The first stage is that in which records are being used frequently in the course of the current activities of the organization which produced them. Records in this stage are often described as "current" or "active". The second stage is that in which records have ceased to be used frequently in the course of current activities, but nevertheless retain occasional administrative use. Records in this stage may be described as "non-current", "inactive" or "dormant". The third stage is that in which records no longer required for administrative use can be either destroyed or, if they have permanent value, passed to the Archives for permanent preservation. 2, record 55, English, - theory%20of%20the%20three%20stages

2, record 55, French, - th%C3%A9orie%20des%20trois%20%C3%A2ges

Strictly speaking, States which have not signed a treaty can in theory accede only with the consent of all the States which are already parties to the instrument. The ratio of this rule is that the States parties are entitled to know and approve of all other parties to a treaty binding them, so that the equilibrium of rights and obligations created by the treaty is not disturbed. Usually, therefore, States accede to a treaty in virtue of a special accession clause, enabling them to accede after the final date for signature of the treaty, and prescribing the procedure for deposit of accessions. 1, record 56, English, - accession%20clause
