The first CANPASS project underway was CANPASS-Highway. The CANPASS-Highway program will eventually be a national version of the PACE(Peace Arch Crossing Entry) project in B. C. which combines pre-approval processing, express lanes, a self-declaration card, and an automated billing system to speed up border crossings.
