Outre les préjugés individuels, il existe également des préjugés systémiques. Il s'agit des façons dont les règles et les normes de la société peuvent freiner certaines personnes et en favoriser d'autres. Victim-offender meetings are organised to give offenders a chance to take active steps to make voluntary reparation to their victims. Such reparation extends much further than financial compensation. It includes an apology and an explanation of how the crime came about, and the offender has to listen to the victim's own story and respond to it. The exchange can be therapeutic for victims and usually has a visible impact upon the offenders, who have to face up to the reality of what they have done. 5, record 2, English, - victim%2Doffender%20meeting

Whereas... cis and trans [are typically defined] as the presence or absence of correspondence between gender identity and gender assigned at birth,... gender modality [is defined] through 'standing in relation to’ because the all-or-nothing nature of ’correspondence’ may be too constraining for the nuances gender modality wishes to capture.... The terminology recognises the difference between, say, trans and cis women, while at the same time recognising that this difference is not one that makes trans women any less or worse women. Whereas trans and cis women have a different gender modality, they share the same gender identity : woman. Discrimination against trans people is often described as discrimination based on gender identity. However, it would be even more accurate to say it is discrimination based on gender modality, as trans people face discrimination because their gender identity doesn’t correspond to the gender they were assigned at birth... 1, record 18, English, - gender%20modality

Viewing Distance at Computer Workstations. ... Accommodation is when the lens capsule in your eye changes shape to focus on a close object. The eyes have a default accommodation distance, called the resting point of accommodation (RPA). That is the distance at which the eyes focus when there is nothing to focus on. In total darkness our eyes are set to focus at a particular distance, so that if the lights were turned on, an object at that distance would be in clear focus. The RPA averages 30 inches for younger people and gets farther away with age. 5, record 26, English, - resting%20point%20of%20accommodation

Jacques Plante, a goaler for the hockey team "Le Canadien de Montréal", is the first hockey player to have worn a mask in the 1960's. The practice became popular to the point that now every goaler wears a complete "mask" while many offensive players wear a "face shield, guard or protector" attached to their helmet, hence the difficulty distinguishing among the different terms. The idea is now accepted by players in many sports : ice, field or roller hockey, short-track speed skating, ringette, etc. The protection worn by the receiver in baseball stands in the same category. 8, record 40, English, - face%20mask

Research has shown that while in French climbing techniques are divided into "escalade intérieure" and "escalade extérieure" depending on the configuration of the rock, such a division does not usually appear in recent English texts. Furthermore, it appears that no consensus has yet been reached as to the number of classes in which to divide the climbing techniques. Both these observations have been confirmed by the manager of Toronto's Mountain Equipment Co-op, who said that the terms "interior" and "exterior"/"face" climbing are not used, and that each climber names the climbing according to the climbing technique required which, in turn, is determined by the type of rock(the way it presents itself to the climber). 4, record 45, English, - interior%20climbing

This year is the ninth edition of the event and we are continuously aiming to recreate the atmosphere and environment of Wall Street's old fashioned trading floor involving shouted negotiation(stocks and options). This year, our principal objective is the magnification of the activity through the welcoming of students from many more universities across Canada and the United States, as well as allowing a large audience to attend to the event and increasing our sponsors’ implication. Therefore, we are expecting more than 400 participants to register that will have the opportunity to experiment the broker profession and that will, this year, have the chance to face expert teams throughout the event. 1, record 49, English, - Undergraduate%20Stock%20Exchange%20simulation

1, record 49, French, - Simulation%20boursi%C3%A8re%20inter%2Duniversitaire

The pulsed plasma thruster(PPT) with solid propellant is used for low power propulsion systems; typically with an average power less than thirty watts. Capacitor stored electrical energy is used to create a pulsed arc discharge across the face of a block of propellant, teflon in most implementations to date. The combination of thermal flux, particle bombardment and surface reactions ablates and ionises a small amount of the solid material... The peak discharge current is high, in the region of tens of kA. The self-induced magnetic field acts on the ions moving in the electric field creating the discharge to create a Lorentz body force that accelerates the plasma. Teflon PPTs have enjoyed limited use in east-west station keeping and sun pointing applications. PPTs do not produce sufficient thrust to be considered as candidates to provide primary propulsion of future out of Earth orbit missions and were not considered for SMART-1. 2, record 55, English, - pulsed%20plasma%20thruster

Indiana University Laboratory for Spectrochemistry. Plasma Source Mass Spectrometry. "Single-Crystal Scintillator-Based Array Detector for Sector-Field Mass Spectrometry, "[by] David A. Solyom. Beginning with the use of photographic plates in the first quarter of this century, array detectors have had a long history of usage in mass-spectrometric analysis. Array detectors are position-sensitive devices capable of independently measuring ion signals that are incident at different locations on the detector's face. Currently popular among the different types of array detectors available for mass spectrometry are microchannel-plate(s)(MCP) coupled with a phosphor.... The electrons emitted from the rear of the MCP strike the phosphor being held in close proximity(1mm) to the MCP. The phosphor screen is sensitive to the incident electrons and will emit photons in response. The number of emitted photons is proportional to the number of incident electrons and the location on the phosphor from which the photons are emitted coincides with the location of the incident electrons. The photons from the phosphor can then be converted into a proportional electronic signal by an imaging device such as a CCD or CID detector array. 2, record 56, English, - sector%20field%20mass%20spectrometry

Mountain ranges have some very interesting weather patterns. One of these amazing phenomenons is the valley wind. Valley winds originate on south facing slopes in the northern hemisphere, and north-facing slopes in the southern hemisphere. When the face of the mountain and surrounding air is heated, the density of the air decreases. This results in the air rising to the top of the slope. During night, the process is reversed, and the air turns into a down slope wind. These winds can be quite powerful. 2, record 57, English, - downslope%20wind

Both these observations have been confirmed by the manager of Toronto's Mountain and Equipment CO-OP, Mr Bob Matheson, who said that the terms "interior" and "exterior"/"face" climbing are not used, and that each climber names the climbing according to the climbing technique required which, in turn, is determined by the type of rock(the way it presents itself to the climber). 1, record 63, English, - exterior%20climbing

When these species hybridize in this transition area, forestry programs face special problems in identifying seedlots that have the desired genetic makeup of source material collected from traditional seed zones. Landfill methods. There are three principal landfill methods of landfilling ... (1) Excavated cell method ... (2) Area method ... (3) Embankment method: An embankment method is used in situations where the site topography allows for the landfill to be ramped on a hill side or a steep side slope. This type of landfill has commonly been used in past years for design of landfills in ravines, coulees, or gullies with soil being obtained from the hill side or side slopes. 1, record 72, English, - embankment%20method

Two general methods of landfilling have evolved : the area method and the trench method. Some schools of thought also include a third, the slope, or ramp, method. In some operations, a slope or ramp is used in combination with the area or trench methods.... In the ramp or slope method(a variation of the area and trench landfills) the solid wastes are dumped on the side of an existing slope. After spreading the material in thin layers on the slope, the bulldozing equipment compacts it. The cover material, usually obtained just ahead of the working face, is spread on the ramp and compacted. 4, record 72, English, - embankment%20method

Three main systems of methane drainage have been developed :(1) the cross-measure borehole method which consists of boring holes from 2¼ to 3¼ inches in diameter and 150 to 300 feet in length, into the strata above or below the seam, generally close to the working face. This method has the advantage of being suited to a wide variety of conditions and does not require another seam within reasonable distance above or below the seam to be drained, or the use of solid stowing;(2) the superjacent roadway system in which boreholes are drilled from a roadway situated above the seam being worked, the drainage of the methane then taking place from this roadway; and(3) the pack cavity system in which corridors are left and supported in the goaf as the face advances, and from these firedamp is drawn off. 1, record 77, English, - methane%20drainage

A coin can have as many as five values depending on the context. "Face value", or "nominal value", is the denomination of the coin. "Intrinsic value" is the melt value of the metallic content of a coin and, for gold or silver coins, is usually greater than face value. "Wholesale value" is what a dealer will pay to own a piece for his business for eventual resale. "Retail value" is what a typical collector will pay to own the coin. "Esteemed value" is the highest possible price that a collector might pay for a piece and this price is influenced not just by how rare or non-competitive the coin might be but also by a certain amount of emotion on the part of the buyer. Certain coins with "pedigree" may also be classed here. 1, record 84, English, - value

Comprehension and expression of affect in language-impaired(LI) children : 8 children with developmental language impairment and 8 age-, sex-, socioeconomic-status-, and I. Q.-matched controls were given tests of comprehension and expression of affective intent in spoken language and through facial expression... On tasks involving emotional facial expression, [these results] were observed : The Li children were more dramatic in their expression of facial affect than were the controls. Children with language impairment appear to have a deficit in affective comprehension and expression that is modality-specific, i. e., limited to vocal affect... To date little evidence is available as to how emotional facial expression is decoded, specifically whether a bottom-up(data-driven) or a top-down(schema-driven) approach is more appropriate in explaining the decoding of emotions from facial expression. A study is reported... in which decoders judged emotions from photographs of facial expressions. Stimuli represented a selection of photographs depicted both single muscular movements(action units) in an otherwise neutral face, and combinations of such action units... Schizophrenics, depressives, patients with anxiety neurosis and normal controls were asked to comment freely for 2 minutes on photographs depicting 7 facial emotional expressions....
