The antibody to the surface antigen of hepatitis B virus. It develops well after convalescence from infection, lasts lifelong, and confers protection against subsequent infection. Hepatitis B vaccine is designed to elicit high titers of this antibody.

L'anticorps anti-HBc est donc présent aussi bien en cas d'infection que de guérison; cet anticorps est de classe IgM en cas d'infection récente et de classe IgG en cas de guérison.
