Health Canada plays a leading role in helping Canadians maintain and enhance their physical and mental well-being.... Within that overall context, the mandate of the Bureau of Chemical Safety(BCS), as part of the Food Directorate(FD), Health Products and Food Branch(HPFB) at Health Canada(HC), and under the authority of the Food and Drugs Act and Regulations(FDARs), ensures that dietary exposure to toxic chemicals in food is kept within acceptable levels and does not cause harmful effects to the health of Canadians.... BCS is composed of three divisions : Chemical Health Hazard Assessment, Food Research, and Toxicology Research.
