Generally speaking, the RWO [real world object] insertion logic may insert a RWO at a location within the VRS [virtual reality scene] that corresponds to its location in the real world relative to the user's direction of gaze in real-time. As a result, the user sees the RWO within the augmented VRS as she would by taking off the HMD [head mounted display], providing her with spatial familiarity and reorientation cues without disrupting the flow of the VRS. Nevertheless, there may be certain instances where the insertion logic may place a RWO at a location within the VRS different than its location within the real world. The process of augmenting the VRS can continue progressively with the insertion or blending or overlaying of additional real world objects until the computer's DDL [disorientation detection logic] determines that the user no longer meets the criteria indicative of disorientation. 1, record 1, English, - insertion

Run-of-river power stations use the natural flow of river water to drive turbines. Although the head of water between the upstream and downstream sides is modest compared to storage power stations, the volume of water available is usually greater. 9, record 6, French, - centrale%20au%20fil%20de%20l%27eau

... what makes some extratropical cyclones produce catastrophically damaging winds.... [Keith Browning and Pete Clark] have identified a mesoscale flow which they call the Sting Jet. It originates in the cloud head of a rapidly deepening cyclone and gathers speed as it descends towards the tip of the cloud head when it begins to hook around the cyclone centre... The Sting Jet was first identified observationally from a reanalysis of the Great Storm of October 1987 where the damaging winds were shown to be emanating from the evaporating tip of the hooked cloud head. It has since been reproduced in high-resolution runs with the mesoscale version of the Unified Model. The Sting Jet is distinct from the usual strong-wind region associated with the warm conveyor belt and main cold front. There are indications that conditional symmetric instability and evaporation both play a role in its formation but the importance of these processes remains to be quantified. 4, record 7, English, - sting%20jet

Sting jets occur in cyclones when there is a dramatic fall in the barometric pressure. ... The sting jet is born at an altitude of three miles, within layers of ascending moist air. Figure 6.1 illustrates a typical open disposal trench at the Barnwell facility. The trench floor is sloped slightly and covered with a layer of sand to facilitate collection of percolating water in a French drain. A number of pipes allow any water that may collect in the French drain to be removed and analyzed. Presently waste, primarily in boxes, drums and cask liners, is stacked neatly in the trench ... As the level of the waste reaches the design level, 2 m below grade, a layer of dry soil is added and allowed to filter down between the waste containers. When a trench is filled, it is covered with a cap of at least 0.6 m of compacted native clay, followed by at least 0.9 m of soil. The cap is graded to shed water and seeded with grass. The sump in each trench is monitored for at least 5 years and any subsidence in the cap is filled to maintain its water-shedding ability. Monitoring wells at the perimeter of the facility have not detected migration of nuclides after more than 15 years of operation. 4, record 15, English, - monitoring%20well

Cycling sprinkler. A development by the sprinkler industry is a sprinkler that cycles on and off as needed.... Under normal conditions, the pilot valve is held closed by the snap disc. Water in the piston chamber holds the piston closed. When the snap disc is heated to the rated temperature, it opens the pilot valve and releases the water from the piston chamber. This allows the piston to open and water to flow from the sprinkler. When the snap disc cools to approximately 100°F, it closes the pilot valve. 5, record 20, English, - on%2Doff%20sprinkler

A sparge arm is another worthwhile brewery option. Although it does not actually save time, it does decrease the amount of effort you must spend pouring sparge water into the lauter tun. A sparge arm can be purchased ready-made, improvised from a shower head, or fabricated at home. One simple design is a perforated copper loop that lies on top of the grain in the lauter tun. It is connected to the hot liquor tank by food-grade tubing, and you control the flow of water from the hot liquor tank using a ball valve. Water is run through the copper loop onto the grain bed at a rate about equal to the rate of wort leaving the tun. 2, record 27, English, - rotating%20arm

The extrusion head used in blow molding is one of three basic styles : the spider or axial flow head, the side feed or radial flow head, and the accumulator head. In the simplest form of the spider or axial flow head, a central torpedo is positioned in the melt flow path supported generally by two spider legs. The smooth and direct path with little or no place for material to hang up and degrade makes this head ideal for PVC resin. Cross-sectional areas of the melt flow path from the extruder, over the torpedo, and over the spider legs are carefully balanced to ensure an even and consistent pressure and flow. 2, record 33, English, - spider%20head

The extrusion head used in blow molding is one of three basic styles : the spider or axial flow head, the side feed or radial flow head, and the accumulator head.... The side feed or radial flow head is a design most often used for polyethylene. Melt enters the head from the side, divides around the mandrel, and rewelds. As the melt moves downward, it enters the pressure ring area, creating a tremendous back pressure that helps ensure the resin reweld. The head is used for its simplicity and ruggedness, but has the disadvantage of relatively long color changes. 2, record 34, English, - side%20feed%20head

We describe the theoretical basis and practical details of a method for creating parametric images of the ratio of regional cerebral blood flow(rCBF) to volume(rCBV) from planar gamma-camera images following intravenous injection of any intravascular tracer and after correction for dispersion of the bolus before it arrives at the head. This ratio, which is the most sensitive index of the extent to which perfusion is being maintained by vasodilatation in patients with cerebro-vascular disease, indicates whether the limits of compensation have been, or are in danger of being, exceeded and identifies any ischaemic penumbra. Evidence is provided of the validity of the correction and the accuracy of calculation of the ratio. The range of normal values established is not significantly different from that previously reported using positron emission tomography. This technique has proved sufficiently sensitive to be clinically useful in patients with abnormalities of cerebral perfusion. 1, record 38, English, - ischaemic%20penumbra

1, record 44, French, - a%C3%A9rotherme%20%C3%A0%20soufflage%20horizontal

Air gauges are of two types : the flow or column type which indicates air velocity, and the pressure type which indicates air pressure in the system.... [In the] column type air gauge... the air flows through a transparent tapered tube in which a float is suspended as a result of this air flow.... The air flowing through the gauge exhausts through the passages in the gauging head into the clearance between the head and the workpiece. The rate of flow is proportional to the clearance indicated by the position of the float in the column. The gauge is set to a master and the float is then positioned by means of an adjusting knob. 1, record 47, English, - column%20type%20air%20gauge

The purpose of this switch is to avoid overflowing the laundry tub when the automatic washer is discharging its water. The switch is installed on the drain line between the laundry tub and laundry pump. Head pressure from the laundry tub activates the switch. Simultaneously a flow of water forming a loop from the pressure side of the pump through the switch bowl and returning to the pump intake keeps the switch contacts closed.(Pump runs continuously). When the laundry tub is completely empty the pump suction line takes in air. This pocket of air travels through the pump and through the return pressure loop. When the air enters the switch bowl, the pressure gives way to the pump suction side, thus pulling the switch contacts open(pump shuts off). 1, record 48, English, - laundry%20pump%20switch
