The lesser grain borer is a cosmopolitan insect, but it survives best in tropical climates where it attacks cereals as well as milo and sorghum.... The lesser grain borer is a much more ferocious feeder than weevils and what they do not eat they spoil. The lesser grain borer is a small brown insect with a cylindrical form, about 3 millimetres long. 2, record 8, French, - petit%20perceur%20des%20c%C3%A9r%C3%A9ales

In the past the Attikamek system of chiefs did not exist in the form known today. The man who became chief was the one who proved best qualified to ensure his group's survival. Sideward movement. This rarer form of locomotion is found only in a few North American and African desert snakes. In a general way it is something like walking since the parts of the body behind the head and in front of the tail are used like legs to support the body and are alternately lifted and lowered. While the tracks made by all other snakes are an uninterrupted sliding track, sideward movement produces a discontinuous twin set of tracks like one might find in a two-legged animal. The individual footprints are produced by the parts of the body rubbing against the ground. 1, record 27, English, - sideward%20movement

Today, the term "marotte" refers to a puppet controlled from below with a single central rod. In French, the term "marotte" can be used even when other rods are added to control the arms, as long as the head and limbs of the marotte are fixed to the central rod and move on the same axis as the stick. 2, record 31, English, - marotte

2, record 31, French, - marotte

Carbonation occurs when carbon dioxide is dissolved in water or an aqueous solution. This process is generally represented by the following reaction, where water and gaseous carbon dioxide react to form a dilute solution of carbonic acid. [H2O + CO2=H2CO3] This process yields the "frizz", to carbonated water, the head to beer, and the cork pop and bubbles to champagne and sparkling wine. Carbonation is used to improve both the taste and "texture" of the carbonated consumable. Carbonation is sometimes used for reasons other than consumption, to lower the pH(raise the hydrogen ion concentration) of a water solution... 2, record 35, English, - carbonation

Mushroom clouds are formed by many sorts of large explosions under earth gravity, though they are best known for their appearance after nuclear detonations.... While it rises, air is drawn into it and upwards(similar to the updraft of a chimney), producing strong air currents known as "afterwinds", while inside the head of the cloud the hot gases rotate in a toroid shape. When the detonation itself is low enough, these afterwinds will draw in dirt and debris from the ground below to form the stem of the mushroom cloud. 2, record 46, English, - stem

(...) the process of "torsion" involves a rotation of the mantle [of a young prosobranch gastropod], and [the] juvenile shell, with its enclosed viscera, through an angle of 180 degrees in relation to the velum(from which the head later develops) and the foot. As a result the mantle cavity comes to occupy an anterodorsal position, while the coiling of the shell assumes the endogastric direction typical of the adult gastropod. Effects of this torsion on the cells from which various organs of the adult animal later arise are far-reaching. Thus, when they develop, the nerve cords connecting the cerebral and pleural to the visceral ganglia are found to be crossed(...) rather like a figure 8, instead of being parallel. The gut has been twisted into a loop. It is, moreover obvious that the positions of the left and right ctenidia, osphradia, hypobranchial glands, heart auricles, and kidneys of the ancestral untorqued form become transposed as the result of torsion, so that when, as in most prosobranchs, only one of each of these organs remains, this, although now on the 6ft-hand side, represents the original right-hand organ. 1, record 56, English, - torsion

2, record 56, French, - torsion

The extrusion head used in blow molding is one of three basic styles : the spider or axial flow head, the side feed or radial flow head, and the accumulator head. In the simplest form of the spider or axial flow head, a central torpedo is positioned in the melt flow path supported generally by two spider legs. The smooth and direct path with little or no place for material to hang up and degrade makes this head ideal for PVC resin. Cross-sectional areas of the melt flow path from the extruder, over the torpedo, and over the spider legs are carefully balanced to ensure an even and consistent pressure and flow. 2, record 67, English, - spider%20head

Kniffin Training. This is the most popular training system in the eastern regions. The photograph in Plate VIII shows a young vine trained to the four-cane Kniffin form, just after it has been pruned. The vine consists of a trunk about four feet long, to reach to the top wire of a four-foot trellis. Near the head may be seen two canes and two spurs-the canes to produce the season's crop, and the spurs to produce the renewal wood for the subsequent season. At a point on the trunk near the lower wire, two canes with their spurs are also left. These lower canes are pruned somewhat shorter than the top canes, because the growth of their shoots tends to be less vigorous. Shoots from the eyes of the four canes droop downward(a normal way of growth for many of the native hybrids) forming a mantle of foliage for the fruit.(A Wine-Grower's Guide, 1965, p. 121). 1, record 80, English, - Kniffin

Ischemic necrosis of the femoral capital epiphysis is characterized initially by dense areas appearing in the femoral head. These areas may take the form of a bandlike linear opacity along the articular surface, or may follow the epiphyseal line. Widening of the epiphyseal cartilage plate may then occur. Spherical segmental opacities then appear, giving the so-called "snow-cap" appearance. [From GBONE, 1980, p. 184. ] 3, record 83, English, - snowcap%20appearance

Gravimetric Loop machine... This is essentially for use in a binary fluid circuit... Three parallel fluid columns of considerable height(64 m in a prototype) are arranged to form two loops, the central column being common to both. In the left-hand loop a refrigerant(e. g. freon 11) is pumped counter-clockwise round the loop : in the right-hand loop, water is circulated clockwise by gravimetric forces. The bottom of the water loop is heated by geothermal fluid. The heated water, on contact with the freon at the bottom of the central column, causes the latter to boil, and the released freon bubbles give buoyancy to the fluid in this column so that the water and boiling freon rise to the top where the two fluids, being immiscible, are separated... The different densities of the fluids in the right-hand and central columns provide the driving head for the turbine. 1, record 90, English, - gravimetric%20loop%20machine
