A growth stage of grasses when the main stem begins to elongate. 1, record 1, English, - shooting%20stage
Record number: 1, Textual support number: 1 CONT
Stem elongation or jointing occurs as a result of internode elongation. Usually a plant has about five to six leaves on the main shoot when internode elongation first begins. Throughout development, the lower four nodes remain in the crown. The fifth node may remain in the crown or be elevated slightly and nodes six and seven are generally elevated above the soil. The elongating internode is hollow between the crown and the elevated growing point, except in solid stem varieties. Rapid stem or internode elongation brings the developing head above the soil surface. Each elongating internode becomes progressively longer and eventually leads to head emergence. 4, record 1, English, - shooting%20stage

A comparatively new vegetable in the U. S., celtuce has been grown in China for many years. This type has an enlarged stem and no head. The fungus causing downy mildew of cabbage also attacks other crucifers, such as cauliflower, collards, Chinese cabbage, Brussels sprouts, broccoli, kale, and kohlrabi... The first symptoms of downy mildew are the formation of black specks and yellow-brown spots on the upper leaf surface, accompanied by the development of a fluffy mold growth on the lower surface. Young leaves may fall off when infected, and on older leaves, the spots may coalesce, producing large, sunken, tan spots. The disease can attack young seedlings or plants that have already headed. On older cabbage plants, the disease produces dark, sunken spots, which may appear purplish, on the head or wrapper leaves. 3, record 9, English, - downy%20mildew%20of%20cabbage

Phalanger. Common name applied to marsupial mammals of the family Phalangeridae, found in Australia, Tasmania, the Solomon Islands, the Moluccas, and Celebes. All the members of the family have five toes on each foot; each digit, except for the opposable innermost toe of the hind foot, has a large claw. Phalangers are nocturnal, arboreal animals that feed chiefly on fruit and leaves. Some species also feed on nectar, insects, and, occasionally, small birds. 2, record 12, English, - phalanger
