Tetanus(lockjaw) is caused by neurotoxins produced by the bacteria Clostridium tetani, particularly in deep or closed wounds, such as puncture wounds, but may occur, due to intestinal infections. This highly fatal disease is a constant threat for all horses as the bacteria are widely distributed in soil and manure.... Clinical signs of tetanus in affected horses begin following an incubation period of 3 days to several weeks, but usually 1 to 2 weeks. Muscle spasms and stiff paralysis progressing from the head to the neck, front, and then hind legs occurs.... The horse may be unable to swallow, resulting in saliva dripping from the mouth and regurgitation of ingested food and water through the nose. Convulsions, muscle rigidity, sweating, and fever may follow. 3, record 1, English, - tetanus

Record number: 1, Textual support number: 1 CONT
3, record 1, French, - t%C3%A9tanos

The Dix-Hallpike test is typically performed in a doctor’s office. The doctor will ask you to sit upright on an exam table with your legs stretched out in front of you and your head turned to one side. They will then ask you to lower your head and torso back so that you end up lying with your head stretched off the edge of the exam table, turned with one ear down at a 45-degree angle. If there are misplaced calcium deposits (also called canaliths) in the posterior canal of your inner ear, this will trigger vertigo symptoms. 4, record 6, English, - Dix%2DHallpike%20manoeuver

You don’t have to pass out(lose consciousness) to have a concussion. Some people will have symptoms of a concussion, such as passing out or forgetting what happened right before the injury, but others won’t. Several studies have demonstrated that ski and snowboard helmets are effective at preventing head injuries. It is estimated that for every 10 people who wear a helmet, up to five may avoid head injuries. Studies also show that even at a speed of 19 km/h, a ski helmet can minimize brain damage. Evidence also demonstrates that ski and snowboards helmet use did not increase the risk of neck injury. 4, record 23, English, - ski%20helmet

Experts recommend that skiers and snowboarders wear a ski helmet in order to reduce the risk of a head injury while skiing. Ski helmets help absorb the shock of an impact to the head, and reduce the jarring of the brain against the skull during impacts with the ski slope or other objects, such as trees or other skiers. The right helmet substantially reduces the risk of concussions and other serious head injuries. ... When choosing a ski or snowboard helmet, look for a helmet that meets ski and snowboard helmet standards from the American Society of Testing and Materials (ASTM), European Committee for Standardization (CEN) or Snell. There should be a label or sticker on the inside of the helmet to designate such a standard. 5, record 23, English, - ski%20helmet

The Criollo - a native of Argentina - is thought to be a relative of the Barb, Andalusian and Arab. Its ancestors were brought to South America by Spanish soldiers in the 16th century.... Nowadays the Criollo is a popular ranch horse. It is most valued for cross-breeding with Thoroughbreds, combining its hardy, athletic nature with the Thoroughbreds’ speed to produce some of the finest Polo ponies in the world.... Criollos are tough and intelligent. They are well known for their powers of endurance, and their quick, agile movement has made them popular with South American cowboys (gauchos) for herding cattle. They are also used for general and long distance riding and pack work. 2, record 85, English, - Criollo

A beautiful, delicate head characterizes the Arabian, often with a "dished" or concave profile below large, prominent eyes; a high-set, arched neck; and a naturally high tail carriage. The back is short and straight; the withers are pronounced and long; the chest is muscular, deep and broad; the shoulders long and sloping; the legs muscular with broad strong joints and clearly defined tendons; and the hooves small with very tough horn, wide at the heel. These points of "type" give the Arabian its distinctive beauty. The ideal height for an Arabian is between 14. 2 and 15 hands and may be chestnut, gray, bay, and black. White markings on the face and legs are common. The coat is fine and silky and the skin is invariably black. The mane and tail are full. 5, record 88, English, - pure%20bred%20Arab
