Cadelle feed on many food materials: cereal grain and its products, oilseeds, cacao, spices, etc. Their presence is indicative of old, rotten grain around storage areas and poor sanitary conditions.

OBS

Cadelles are one of the largest insects to infest grain. They are shiny black in colour, about 8 to 9 millimetres in length, and easily recognized by their large mandibles with which they can gnaw through sacking and even wood. The larva is also easy to recognize, with its black head and two black prongs on the last segment. The larva also has dark spots on top of the dorsal section. The cadelle has one of the longest life cycles of the beetles. The females lay about 900 eggs. At 28 degrees C and a relative humidity of 70 to 80%, it takes about 80 days from egg to adult. When the average temperature drops to 23 degrees C, the larval stage lasts 13 months. Under colder conditions the life cycle may take three years.

La cadelle attaque quantité de denrées. Outre les oléagineux, les fèves de cacao, les épices, etc., l'espèce attaque également les céréales et les produits qui en dérivent. La présence de cet insecte signifie généralement qu'il y a du vieux grain pourri autour des installations d'entreposage et que les conditions sanitaires laissent à désirer.

OBS

La cadelle est un des plus gros insectes à infester le grain. De couleur noirjais, brillant, l'adulte mesure de 8 à 9 mm de longueur. On le reconnaît facilement à ses puissantes mandibules qui lui permettent de ronger la toile à sac et même le bois. La larve est également facilement identifiable, du fait de sa tête noire, des deux urogomphes qui terminent son dernier segment abdominal et des taches foncées sur la surface dorsale de son thorax. Le cycle évolutif de la cadelle est parmi les plus longs, chez les coléoptères. La femelle pond environ neuf cents œufs. À 28 degrés C et à une humidité relative variant entre 70 % et 80 %, l'évolution de la cadelle demande environ quatre-vingt jours. Si la température est de 23 degrés C, l'insecte passera treize mois sous la forme larvaire, et, à des températures plus basses, l'évolution peut exiger trois ans.

An obstetrical forceps having a sliding lock and little pelvic curve.

Kielland’s forceps [were] originally designed to deliver the fetal head at or above the pelvic brim, lying in the transverse axis of the pelvis and rotating it when it had reached the pelvic cavity. The forceps is used today for rotation and extraction of the head which is arrested in the deep transverse or occipito-posterior position. The blades have very little pelvic curve and are virtually an axis traction forceps. A large episiotomy is needed. The shallowness of the curve allows safe rotation in the vagina. Downward traction encourages rotation of the head. The claw lock allows the blades to slide on each other and correct or encourage synclitism of the fetal head as required. The range of movement allowed by the lock makes it possible to apply lethal compression to the fetal head if the instrument is used improperly

If the fetus's head needs to be rotated, there is now a tendency to use manual rotation, rotation with a vacuum extractor, or caesarean section in preference to Kielland's rotational forceps. This change in practice arose in the 1980s after high rates of neonatal morbidity and mortality were associated with Kielland's forceps... Kielland's forceps are only used for select cases and by experienced obstetricians.

In medical eponyms, the possessive form, such as "Kielland’s forceps" (Christian Kielland or Kjelland, Norwegian obstetrician) often disappears over the years. For that reason, the written forms "Kjelland forceps" and "Kielland forceps"are also found.

Another process somewhat related to extrusion blow molding is the extrusion/molded neck process. Still used today by Owens-Illinois, this is a proprietary process that traces its roots to glass-blowing technology. It is unique in that the bottle neck finish is injection molded and the bottle body is extrusion blow-molded. In this process, the two halves of a neck finish cavity or neckring are mounted to an actuating head assembly, which intermeshes with the two halves of the blow-mold cavity. The process cycle begins with the main body mold cavity open and the neckring cavity closed. The actuating head assembly moves downward to contact the extrusion die head. When it is in position, extrusion pressure fills the neck section with plastic melt. After it is held for one to two seconds, the head assembly moves upward while, simultaneously, the parison is extruded. When the head assembly reaches the top of its stroke, the blow-mold cavity closes on the parison. The remaining steps of parison pinch-off, blowing, and part removal all follow conventional techniques. Although the production cycle is somewhat slow, the process offers the quality advantage of an accurately molded neck and the process advantage of a parison held at both ends.
