The Montreal Council of Social Agencies(MCSA), a co-ordinating organization for English-speaking, non-Roman Catholic social agencies, was formed in 1921 by John Howard Toynbee Falk, head of McGill' s Department of Social Studies, later the McGill University School of Social Workers. Although details of the organization of the MCSA have been modified over the years, the basic structure remained constant : a Board of Directors, elected from the member agencies, directed the MCSA through administrative standing committees and, more importantly, set up numerous special committees to study specific social problems under the aegis of area advisory groups for health, aging, urban renewal, recreation, etc. The overwhelming emphasis of the MCSA on planning and research reflects its role as animator, information exchange and coordinator of a great variety of social agencies and groups, from major hospitals and fund-raising organizations to church groups and boys’ clubs. In 1968, the MCSA merged with its French homologue, the Conseil de Développement Social du Montréal métropolitain.

A gentle and constant outward pull must be kept on the shaft to set the teeth and keep the axe locked into the ice. The axe is removed by pushing the shaft toward the ice and lifting the pick up and out of the ice.

Footwork changes from the duck walk (en canard) to the same flat-foot technique which was used to ascend diagonally. The axe is used in the anchor position (piolet ancre): with the outside arm, the climber swings the axe out in front and plants the pick in the ice, then flat-foots diagonally down below the axe. The shaft rotates as the climber passes below it.

The Criollo - a native of Argentina - is thought to be a relative of the Barb, Andalusian and Arab. Its ancestors were brought to South America by Spanish soldiers in the 16th century.... Nowadays the Criollo is a popular ranch horse. It is most valued for cross-breeding with Thoroughbreds, combining its hardy, athletic nature with the Thoroughbreds’ speed to produce some of the finest Polo ponies in the world.... Criollos are tough and intelligent. They are well known for their powers of endurance, and their quick, agile movement has made them popular with South American cowboys (gauchos) for herding cattle. They are also used for general and long distance riding and pack work.
