Under the heading "restorative justice processes" are victim-offender conferences, restorative conferences and sentencing circles. [In victim-offender conferences, the] community is not represented except through the community agencies’ role in planning and facilitating the process, but the process is deemed restorative because of the presence of the victim and the positive results that can flow from this. 3, record 1, English, - victim%2Doffender%20conference

A cutback is a surfing maneuver with which you change your direction on the rail by going back to the breaking part of the wave. See, when you’re at full speed, there's a big chance that you’re getting away from the breaking wave and heading towards the flat spots of the shoulder that don’t have the intrinsic power to carry you. So, you’ll lose speed, and you’ll need to get back to the wave to gain as much speed as you can. That's when you should perform a cutback. In that sense, a cutback isn’t only an aesthetic move, as it gets you back to the power source of the wave : its curl. 2, record 5, English, - cutback

The heading indicator(HI) uses the principle of rigidity in space for it's operation. The gyro is mounted such that it registers changes around the vertical axis only; i. e. direction changes. The compass card attached to the gyro appears to the pilot as though it is turning. In reality, it and the attached gyro are remaining rigid in space, while the aircraft and case turn about the gyro. The HI is not automatically synchronized with the magnetic compass.
Record number: 67, Textual support number: 2 CONT

Crazy Ivan is a U. S. Navy term for a Soviet submarine manoeuvre, characterized by any number of sudden and sharp turns, used by submarine crews to "look behind" them. Because of the acoustic distortions and noise caused by propeller blades, it is nearly possible for conventional sonars to detect objects directly behind a submarine. Thus, with sudden turns, the area where the sonar is not effective shifts relative to the current heading of the submarine, causing previous gaps in sonar coverage to be revealed while masking known areas. 1, record 69, English, - crazy%20Ivan

The "crazy" part of the name comes from the fact that these manoeuvre were very sudden and "Ivan" was a common nickname used to refer to the Russians. A standard tactic of pursuing submarines would be to closely follow the Soviet submarine hidden right in the sonar gap, causing the U.S. submarine to go undetected. 1, record 69, English, - crazy%20Ivan

Bakanae is caused by the fungus Fusarium. While it is generally thought of as a seedling disease, it can be observed throughout the growing season. Infected seedlings are taller and more slender and are often visible arching above the healthy rice plants. As the season progresses, bakanae-infected plants may die before reaching maturity, or if they survive to heading, the panicles they produce are mostly empty. The fungus can over winter in the soil and residue as spores on the coat of infested seeds, leading to infected plants in the field the following season. 7, record 84, English, - Bakanae%20disease

A gyroscope will not only resist being moved out of its vertical position, it will also generate force as it attempts to travel in large, circular patterns. These patterns are most easily seen with a spinning top. As the top begins losing its energy, it never simply spirals straight down in the same direction that it was originally spinning. As it destabilizes, it will always begin slowly rotating or precessing in a slow, even circle that is in the opposite direction to its normal spinning motion. These circular patterns are known as "precessional" motions, and they are another aspect of a gyroscope’s movement that will occur either in air or in a vacuum and can be used to overcome gravity. 9, record 96, English, - precessional%20motion

If an airplane changes suddenly from a nose up to a nose down position, as is the case during the take-off roll in a tail wheel airplane, the airplane will yaw sharply to the left as the pilot shoves the wheel forward to raise the tail. The application of right rudder compensates for the precession tendency. 7, record 96, English, - precessional%20motion

The gyropilot, commonly called an automatic pilot, consists basically of three devices, each of which detects disturbances of the aircraft in one plane and corrects for these disturbances by moving the appropriate control : the rudder control for azimuth and sudden change in heading(yaw) disturbances, aileron control for roll disturbance, and elevator control for pitch disturbance. In modern gyropilots rate detection forms the principal reference and displacement detection plays a secondary role. 6, record 100, English, - automatic%20pilot
