CONT

Situational judgment tests(SJTs) have been used in the health professions as a strategy to evaluate social and behavioral attributes across multiple disciplines, including pharmacy. Situational judgment tests include written or video-based assessments that present hypothetical scenarios intended to measure a specific construct. The examinee is asked how they should respond to the scenario, which is expected to be indicative of their behavior in practice.

CONT

Reemerging diseases are diseases that reappear after they have been on a significant decline. Reemergence may happen because of a breakdown in public health measures for diseases that were once under control. They can also happen when new strains of known disease-causing organisms appear. Human behavior affects reemergence. For example, overuse of antibiotics has led to disease-causing organisms that are resistant to medicines. It has allowed a return of diseases that once were treatable and controllable.

OBS

Reemerging diseases include malaria, tuberculosis, cholera, pertussis, influenza, pneumococcal disease, and gonorrhea.

The health impact pyramid, a framework for public health action, postulates that addressing socioeconomic factors(tier 1, or the base of the pyramid) has the greatest potential to improve health. Interventions that change the context for individual behavior(tier 2) are generally the most effective public health actions; 1-time clinical interventions(tier 3), such as immunizations, can be more effectively applied than those requiring ongoing care; and clinical interventions(tier 4) are generally, although not inevitably, more effective than counseling and education(tier 5).

The Sulfate Regional Experiment(SURE) was designed to investigate the behavior of airborne sulfur oxides and associated substances over the greater northeastern United States. The study area extended from eastern Kansas to the Atlantic seaboard and from mid-Alabama to southeastern Canada, an area of approximately 2, 400 by 1, 000 km. The study was motivated by concerns in the early 1970s that suspended sulfates impair human health when inhaled in a mixture of pollutant gases and other suspended particulate components. The primary objectives of the SURE project were : establish a regional air quality data base through measurements of several parameters at the ground and aloft with specified accuracy and precision, and evaluate the adequacy of the measurements selected for establishing the origins of the sulfur oxide particulate complex.
