Social epidemiology is a branch of epidemiology that focuses particularly on the effects of social-structural factors on states of health. Social epidemiology assumes that the distribution of advantages and disadvantages in a society reflects the distribution of health and disease. It proposes to identify societal characteristics that affect the pattern of disease and health distribution in a society and to understand its mechanisms. The central and initial question of social epidemiology to be answered is what effect do social factors have on individual and population health. 2, record 5, English, - social%20epidemiology

What does benefit, harm and uncertainty mean? The regulation of consumer health products is based on the principle that the product's benefit must exceed any potential harm, with a reasonable degree of certainty. Benefit may be defined as any intended useful, positive effect obtained, whereas harm is any unintended effect that may cause injury or diminish human health in any way. Benefit and harm are not absolute, and Health Canada recognizes that uncertainties exist with respect to both the benefit and harm that may result from being exposed to a food or health product. 2, record 6, English, - benefit%2Dharm%2Duncertainty

Cuando la magnitud de efecto se aplica a mediciones de variables continuas (como la media), su estimador común más usado es la diferencia media estandarizada, que se calcula como la diferencia de medias dividida por la desviación estándar. Associations of states. Independent states may enter into forms of co-operation by consent and on an equal basis. The basis for the co-operation may be the constitution of an international organization, such as the United Nations or the World Health Organization. However, by treaty or custom other structures for maintaining co-operation may be created. One such structure, the confederation, has in practice either disintegrated or been transformed into a federation. In recent times the British Commonwealth of Nations and the French Community have provided examples of associations of states of a special type. Membership of these two associations would not necessarily affect the primary legal capacities and personality of member states any more than membership of an organization and has less effect than membership of some organizations, for example, the European Economic Community, which has a slight federal element, albeit on a treaty basis. 3, record 42, English, - association%20of%20states

Of the Health Policy Working Paper Series, by Ilene Hyman, 2001, vii, 89 pages. The purpose of this report is to review research on the health determinants of health of Canadian immigrants and to discuss the implications of this research for policy makers. Specific attention is placed on reviewing evidence of the healthy immigrant effect. The healthy immigrant effect refers to the observation that immigrants are often in superior health to the native-born population when they first arrive in a new country, by lose this health advantage over time. 1, record 51, English, - Immigration%20and%20Health

1, record 51, French, - Immigration%20et%20sant%C3%A9

Reproductive effects are problems in the reproductive process which may be caused by a substance. Possible reproductive effects include reduced fertility in the male or female, menstrual changes, miscarriage, embryotoxicity, fetotoxicity, teratogenicity, or harmful effects to the nursing infant from chemicals in breast milk. Most chemicals can cause reproductive effects if there is an extremely high exposure. In these cases, the exposed person would experience other noticeable signs and symptoms caused by the exposure. These signs and symptoms act as a warning of toxicity. Chemicals which cause reproductive effects in the absence of other significant harmful effects are regarded as true reproductive hazards. 2, record 57, French, - effet%20g%C3%A9n%C3%A9tique

The next step in quantifying health effects would be to estimate the decline in the number of cases of diseases that may result if the proposed light duty vehicle emission standards are implemented. Two types of data are required to make this estimate : 1. Dose-response functions for each adverse effect(the mathematical relationship between the dose of a pollutant that an individual receives and the probability that he will experience a particular adverse effect) ;and 2. Estimates of the impact of the proposed light duty vehicle standards on the number, ambient concentrations, and duration of concentrations of CO, NOx and O3 in excess of National Ambient Air Quality Objectives. 1, record 82, English, - light%20duty%20vehicle%20emission%20standard
