The Montreal Council of Social Agencies(MCSA), a co-ordinating organization for English-speaking, non-Roman Catholic social agencies, was formed in 1921 by John Howard Toynbee Falk, head of McGill' s Department of Social Studies, later the McGill University School of Social Workers. Although details of the organization of the MCSA have been modified over the years, the basic structure remained constant : a Board of Directors, elected from the member agencies, directed the MCSA through administrative standing committees and, more importantly, set up numerous special committees to study specific social problems under the aegis of area advisory groups for health, aging, urban renewal, recreation, etc. The overwhelming emphasis of the MCSA on planning and research reflects its role as animator, information exchange and coordinator of a great variety of social agencies and groups, from major hospitals and fund-raising organizations to church groups and boys’ clubs. In 1968, the MCSA merged with its French homologue, the Conseil de Développement Social du Montréal métropolitain. 2, record 1, English, - Conseil%20de%20d%C3%A9veloppement%20social%20du%20Montr%C3%A9al%20m%C3%A9tropolitain

The variant of concern(VOC) spreads across all age groups and children do not appear to be at higher risk compared to other age groups. Although no formal consensus about the definition of population health research yet exists... most descriptions of the field include one or more of the following characterizations : Population health research is an interdisciplinary field focusing on the health outcomes of groups of individuals, which can be defined variously(e. g., workers at a workplace, residents of a neighborhood, people sharing a common race or social status, or the population of a nation). Population health researchers conduct studies that seek to characterize, explain and/or influence the levels and distributions of health within and across populations. Population health researchers view health as the product of multiple determinants at the biologic, genetic, behavioral, social, and environmental levels and their interactions among individuals and groups and across time and generations. 2, record 17, English, - population%20health%20research

SkyWorks is a catalyst, advocate and participant in social change through community centred film making and public engagement. SkyWorks Charitable Foundation was established in 1983 as a non-profit documentary organization dealing with contemporary social issues. The process of creating the films and the subsequent dissemination is a community development effort, working with local, regional, and national groups, to create strategies for social change. [SkyWorks focuses] on documentary and community development projects in four program areas : working with children and families as a force for social change; promoting recovery by challenging stereotypes and systemic barriers with people experiencing mental health issues; informing and supporting community engagement in health care policies and practices [and] documenting barriers and exploring alternative approaches to accessing justice, preventing discrimination and ensuring fairness within the various legal systems... that structure the lives of persons belonging to particular marginalized communities. 1, record 28, English, - SkyWorks%20Charitable%20Foundation

Liberal Plan for Better Health Care. The National Waiting Times Reduction Strategy is a major effort to work to measure and publish existing waiting times, determine which waiting times should be reduced first, and, then to do what it takes to bring waiting times down. The federal government will work collaboratively with provinces and territories, the medical profession and patient groups to define reasonable and medically appropriate waiting times, and to identify the places where they are unacceptably long. Teaching hospitals and regional health authorities--which play such a critical role in the system--will also be asked to contribute to the process. 1, record 40, English, - National%20Waiting%20Times%20Reduction%20Strategy

The Children's Oral Health Initiative(COHI) was developed as a means to address the disparity between the oral health of First Nations and Inuit and that of the general Canadian population. COHI was launched on a test basis in Fall 2004. COHI focuses on the prevention of dental disease and promotion of good oral health practices. The goal of COHI is to shift the emphasis from a primarily treatment based approach to a more balanced prevention and treatment focus. The initial focus for oral health promotion will be directed at three target groups : pregnant women and primary caregivers; pre-school children, 0-4 years of age; and school children, 5-7 years of age. Health Canada expects that the COHI, once fully implemented in subsequent years, will result in significant improvement of the oral health in First Nations and Inuit. 1, record 46, English, - Children%26rsquo%3Bs%20Oral%20Health%20Initiative

The Canadian Institutes of Health Research(CIHR) and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada(SSHRC) were pleased to announce funding offered under the Community Alliances for Health Research Program. The CAHR Program is one of several transition programs launched in October of 1999 leading to the creation of CIHR. The intent of the CAHR Program is to foster excellent research of relevance to community groups and agencies in the four themes of health research : biomedical, clinical, health services and systems and population health including the social, cultural and environmental determinants of health. The program facilitates mutual learning and collaboration among community organizations and partnerships with researchers based in local universities, hospitals and other not-for-profit institutions. In addition to contributing to the improved health quality of life in communities involved in CAHRs, the program provides unique opportunities for training of health researchers in all disciplines. 1, record 57, English, - Community%20Alliances%20for%20Health%20Research%20Program

1, record 57, French, - Programme%20des%20alliances%20communautaires%20pour%20la%20recherche%20en%20sant%C3%A9

An AIDS patient is not to be called a "victim" or a "sufferer, "according to the lexicon approved by a World Health Organization conference. Instead, he is a "person with AIDS. "... The preferred usage then became the acronym PWA for "People With AIDS. "... AIDS advocacy groups decided that the public tended to think of PWAs as people lying around about to die. To change that perceived perception, they decided that newspapers should start using the term "People Living With AIDS, "or PLWA, reasoning that people would start to think of them as L-ing beings rather than D-ing ones. 2, record 63, English, - person%20living%20with%20aids

There is an increasing emphasis on correlating environmental impacts and health effects across Canada and therefore a need for a relational database containing water use data, accessible by governments and the public. The database consists of basic municipal population as well as water and sewage flow information from 1355 Canadian municipalities. It also includes simple raw data summations. Some water use groups, water treatment and wastewater treatment types, and effluent data are available as well. 1, record 97, English, - Municipal%20Water%20Use%20Database

1, record 97, French, - Base%20de%20l%27utilisation%20de%20l%27eau%20par%20les%20municipalit%C3%A9s

Officially designated registered nurse(extended class), or RN(EC), NPs [nurse practitioners] are registered nurses with additional education who work with individuals, families, groups and communities. Like all registered nurses, their focus on health promotion and disease prevention facilitates comprehensive health-care reform. Key members of any health-care team, nurse practitioners work in diverse health-care settings, from community health centres to doctors’ offices to hospitals, nursing homes and home care. They diagnose, prescribe and administer medications, order medical tests, conduct Pap smears, educate, and refer patients to other health-care professionals such as nutritionists and social workers. 3, record 98, English, - registered%20nurse%20extended%20class
