1, record 43, French, - Initiative%20de%20partenariats%20en%20action%20communautaire

The Institute merged with the Institute of Resources and Environment in 2002 to form the Institute of Environment, Resources and Sustainability, within which SDRI remains as a research group. SDRI encourages interdisciplinary collaboration among faculty, departments and other centres at UBC, as well as other institutes and programs undertaking sustainability research in Canada and around the world. SDRI attempts to break away from the restrictions imposed by the traditional compartmentalization of research, and transcends disciplinary boundaries in its search for solutions. Our projects involve researchers from the natural sciences, applied sciences, health sciences, social sciences and humanities, working with partner organizations in the private, public and NGO sectors, with a strong focus on policy relevance and community engagement processes. 1, record 46, English, - Sustainable%20Development%20Research%20Institute

In the next two years, Health Canada and Human Resources Development Canada, in conjunction with the voluntary sector, will develop a policy internships and academic fellowships pilot project. The internships would involve exchange initiatives between the government and the voluntary sector. This project will focus on placing voluntary sector employees as interns in national voluntary organizations working jointly with federal government departments on policy issues. Interns would work primarily on policy files that would help to enhance the capacity of the voluntary sector. The academic fellowships will be developed to focus on policy-relevant research that directly relates to the voluntary sector. These internships and fellowships would provide specific knowledge, skills and expertise required by both the sector and government. It will also provide the opportunity for greater collaboration and information-sharing between government, academics, and the voluntary sector. 1, record 83, English, - Policy%20Internships%20and%20Academic%20Fellowships

1, record 83, French, - Stages%20et%20bourses%20d%27%C3%A9tudes%20en%20%C3%A9laboration%20de%20politiques

Preferred Provider Organizations(PPOs) offer purchasers of care several benefits, including expenditure reduction, utilization control, improved quality of care, and efficient management. Although Medicare could benefit from these outcomes, the program lags behind the private sector in PPO development. The Health Care Financing Administration(HCFA) must address several policy issues and constraints as it develops PPOs for Medicare beneficiaries. The agency must identify services and providers to include in the PPO, develop program sponsorship and administration methods, create viable provider and beneficiary incentives to participate, identify sources of PPO cost savings, and examine the role of medigap insurance policies in PPO development. 2, record 87, English, - preferred%20provider%20organization
