The Canadian Institutes of Health Research(CIHR) and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada(SSHRC) were pleased to announce funding offered under the Community Alliances for Health Research Program. The CAHR Program is one of several transition programs launched in October of 1999 leading to the creation of CIHR. The intent of the CAHR Program is to foster excellent research of relevance to community groups and agencies in the four themes of health research : biomedical, clinical, health services and systems and population health including the social, cultural and environmental determinants of health. The program facilitates mutual learning and collaboration among community organizations and partnerships with researchers based in local universities, hospitals and other not-for-profit institutions. In addition to contributing to the improved health quality of life in communities involved in CAHRs, the program provides unique opportunities for training of health researchers in all disciplines. 1, record 26, English, - Community%20Alliances%20for%20Health%20Research%20Program

1, record 26, French, - Programme%20des%20alliances%20communautaires%20pour%20la%20recherche%20en%20sant%C3%A9

The Adult Injury Management Network(AIMNet) at the University of Victoria has an established track record in the area of fall and fall-related injury prevention among older people. AIMNet is recognized as a national leader in the field of injury prevention. Partners : British Columbia Injury Research and Prevention Unit at the Centre for Community Health & Health Evaluation Research(Children's & Women's Health Centre of B. C.), the Institute on Health of the Elderly(University of Ottawa) and the School of Nutrition & Dietetics(Acadia University). The goal of this project is to reduce falls and fall-related injuries among residents of long-term care facilities in several pilot sites across Canada. The proposed model focuses on the determinants of health that put residents of care facilities at greatest risk of sustaining a fall and related injuries. Through the creation of networks of support and information, this project aims to strengthen the capacities of both the residents of these facilities and those who care for them. The project results include the publication of a paper in a scientific journal and presentations at national conferences such as the Canadian Association of Gerontology Annual Scientific and Educational Meeting. 1, record 27, English, - Adult%20Injury%20Management%20Network

1, record 27, French, - R%C3%A9seau%20de%20gestion%20des%20traumatismes%20chez%20les%20adultes

SDRI encourages interdisciplinary collaboration among faculty, departments and other centres at UBC, as well as other institutes and programs undertaking sustainability research in Canada and around the world. SDRI attempts to break away from the restrictions imposed by the traditional compartmentalization of research, and transcends disciplinary boundaries in its search for solutions. The Review of Veterans’ Care Needs is an important policy and research body, established in 1996, that supports the Department's efforts to design programs and services that are driven by client need rather than program requirements, improving our ability to make evidence-based decisions. Through a series of research tools, including a literature review, focus groups with clients, their care givers and a number of health providers, and analysis of health services offered by the community and other levels of government in each province, our Review of Veterans’ Care Needs project team has been able to identify changes in the needs of aging veterans, gaps in benefits and services and VAC can best add value to their care. 1, record 46, English, - Review%20of%20Veterans%26rsquo%3B%20Care%20Needs
