Health Canada. The Quarantine and Migration Health Program(QMHP) implements the Canadian Quarantine Act and Regulations, and the World Health Organization's(WHO) International Health Regulations. QMHP helps protect Canadians from the importation of dangerous and infectious diseases which might pose a threat to public health, through the international movements of persons, goods, and conveyances(air planes, trains, buses, automobiles, ships, boats, etc.). To safeguard the health of Canadians, QMHP coordinates Canada's response to outbreaks of international disease. QMHP can implement contingency plans and other emergency measures developed with public and private sector partners. 1, record 15, English, - Quarantine%20and%20Migration%20Health%20Program

1, record 15, French, - Programme%20de%20quarantaine%20et%20de%20sant%C3%A9%20des%20migrants

In Canada, a Special Threat Assessment Group(STAG) was formed in 1976 as an interdepartmental committee to assess, prevent, contain or otherwise assist in the response to terrorist threats and incidents involving the use of nuclear, biological, or chemical agents. Chaired by an official of Health Canada, it is comprised of medical professionals and scientists charged with assessing a threat's credibility, feasibility, magnitude and potential of likely consequences, as well as helping to identiy the medical and physical resources required to respond. In addition, there is a Nuclear, Biological and Chemical(NBC) Response Team belonging to the Canadian Forces, attached to the NBC School at CFB Borden, Ontario. It is capable of providing on-site advice and technical assistance in isolating, containing, and assessing the hazard; providing any necessary first aid and removal of casualties; collecting and packaging samples for later analysis; and supervising decontamination or clean-up operations. It has conducted a number of exercises and co-operative training with the RCMP and other authorities, and would be activated upon a request from the federal Solicitor General. 1, record 25, English, - Special%20Threat%20Assessment%20Group

1, record 25, French, - Groupe%20sp%C3%A9cial%20de%20l%27%C3%A9valuation%20de%20la%20menace

This award was created in 1988 in honour of the former Honorary Campaign Chair of Ontario March of Dimes, the late Paul Martin Sr., who personally waged a battle against polio. As Canadian Minister of National Health and Welfare in the 1950s, Paul Martin Sr. took the courageous step of delivering the country's universal vaccination program despite an atmosphere of great uncertainty. The vaccine eventually ended the threat of polio in Canada. The award is presented annually to an individual(s) for service to Ontario March of Dimes in the areas of fundraising, service or policy. 1, record 28, English, - The%20Right%20Honourable%20Paul%20Martin%20Sr%2E%20Award

Landfill gas is a threat to human health and global warming, and flaring or utilizing it for energy greatly reduces its climate change impact. Burning LFG [landfill gas] also serves to mitigate its public health impact by destroying the majority of hazardous air pollutants in landfill gas through the combustion process. Furthermore, using LFG to produce electricity avoids the need to generate electricity at traditional power plants and thus reduces air pollution from these plants. However, LFG combustion produces minute quantities of dioxins, an extremely toxic group of chemicals that are harmful even in very small amounts. 4, record 29, English, - LFG%20combustion
