Angiotensin II receptor–neprilysin inhibitors. Sacubitril-valsartan isa fixed dose combination of the angiotensin II receptor blocker valsartan and the neprilysin inhibitor sacubitril.... Sacubitril/valsartan is a combination product. Sacubritil acts as a neprilysin inhibitor and works by blocking the action of neprilysin, inhibiting the breakdown of natriuretic peptides. This results in increased diuresis, vasodilation, reduction in blood pressure and work on the heart. Valsartan is an angiotensin receptor blocker and inhibits the RAAS [renin-angiotensin aldosterone system]... to reduce the maladaptive response to cardiac failure. Neprilysin breaks down angiotensin II, so sacubitril given alone would result in an accumulation of angiotensin II. For this reason, it must be combined with an angiotensin receptor blocker to block the effect of excess angiotensin II. 2, record 4, English, - angiotensin%20II%20receptor%20and%20neprilysin%20inhibitor

In a telemedicine system, a patient is geographically removed from the presence of a doctor or other healthcare provider. For example, the patient could be at home instead of on site at a healthcare facility. Telemedical devices enable the healthcare provider to monitor the health status of a patient and potentially diagnose and treat some medical problems without the need for the patient to travel to the healthcare facility. The use of telemedical systems has the potential to reduce the cost of healthcare, and to improve the quality of healthcare through increased patient monitoring. Various known telemedicine systems provide a device to a patient that enables the patient to transmit medical data to a doctor or healthcare provider. Some devices are configured to record biosignals, such as heart rate, blood pressure, and respiration rates, and transmit data of the recorded biosignals to a database for later review. 1, record 11, English, - biosignal

Body roundness index(BRI) might be a more accurate measurement than body mass index(BMI) for predicting weight-related health risks... BMI has long been the standard to classify a person's body weight as too low, normal, overweight, or obese. While BMI often reflects a person's body fat amount, it doesn’t account for fat distribution or the amount of muscle mass.... BRI addresses these shortcomings by focusing on a person's height, waist size, and hip size. By taking weight out of the equation, BRI provides a better indicator of how much belly fat(visceral fat) surrounds the organs inside the abdomen. High amounts of belly fat are linked to high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes, and some cancers. 3, record 12, English, - body%20roundness%20index

A pulmonary shunt refers to the passage of deoxygenated blood from the right side of the heart to the left without participation in gas exchange in the pulmonary capillaries. It is a pathological condition that results when the alveoli of the lungs are perfused with blood as normal, but ventilation(the supply of air) fails to supply the perfused region. In other words, the ventilation/perfusion ratio(the ratio of air reaching the alveoli to blood perfusing them) is zero. 2, record 13, English, - pulmonary%20shunt

In a remote patient monitoring system, physiological data is collected through biomedical sensors in order to evaluate the well-being of patients outside of the hospital setting. Its purpose is to move traditional clinical settings into people's homes, where they live, work, and play. In order for the appropriate decisions to be made, the data collected is wirelessly transmitted to the healthcare provider. Using this type of tele-health, physiological data such as heart rate/pulse rate, respiratory rate, body temperature, blood pressure, and blood oxygen saturation can be measured and transmitted. 1, record 20, English, - remote%20patient%20monitoring%20system

In a two-compartment model... upon administration, a substance is introduced into the central compartment that is followed by its distribution between the central and a peripheral compartment; however, equilibration of the concentration of the substance between the two compartments is not anticipated to be achieved instantaneously. A tilt table test is used to evaluate the cause of unexplained fainting(syncope).... For a tilt table test, you begin by lying flat on a table. Straps are put around your body to hold you in place. After about 15 minutes of lying flat, the table is quickly tilted to raise your body to a head-up position-simulating a change in position from lying down to standing up. The table will then remain upright for up to 45 minutes, while your heart rate and blood pressure are monitored. This allows doctors to evaluate your body's cardiovascular response to the change in position. 5, record 33, English, - head%20up%20tilt%20test

Under x-ray guidance, a catheter is threaded through the femoral artery up into the aorta(large artery from the heart) and then gently advanced into the affected coronary artery. There, a balloon is used to open the coronary artery(balloon angioplasty) and restore blood flow. The principal advantage of pulsed Doppler is range resolution, or the ability to sample blood flow in a small, specific area whose location and depth can be varied. A disadvantage of pulsed Doppler, however, is that there are limits to the maximum frequency shifts that can be unambiguously displayed at any given depth. To avoid range ambiguity, the ultrasound pulse must travel down to the selected depth and back before the next pulse can enter the heart. Therefore, the PRF [pulse repetition frequency] or sampling rate is limited at each depth. 4, record 39, English, - pulsed%20Doppler%20ultrasonography

3, record 52, French, - pontage%20coronarien

Scleroderma is a chronic autoimmune disease... The term scleroderma means "hard skin", which describes thickening of the skin from increased deposition of collagen. There are two types of scleroderma. Localized scleroderma affects the skin and musculoskeletal system. Systemic sclerosis causes internal organ damage including scarring and blood vessel damage in the skin, lungs, heart, and kidneys. 5, record 64, English, - scleroderma

[Scleroderma] was formerly known as "skin-bound" or "hide-bound" disease. Both of these terms accurately describe the ultimate effects of thickening of the skin due to swelling and thickening of the underlying connective tissue... The actual cause is unknown, but vascular, endocrine and autoimmune factors have been suspected. 3, record 64, English, - scleroderma

Alcohol septal ablation is a procedure used to treat obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy(HCM). It is a minimally invasive procedure performed when severe symptoms cannot be controlled with drugs. In obstructive HCM, the wall(septum) between the heart's ventricles thickens until it interferes with blood flow to the body. Alcohol septal ablation creates a tiny, managed heart attack in the abnormally thickened heart tissue. The damaged tissue dies and is replaced by thinner scar tissue, restoring blood flow out of the heart. 1, record 78, English, - alcohol%20septal%20ablation

1, record 78, French, - ablation%20septale%20%C3%A0%20l%26rsquo%3Balcool

A transesophageal echocardiogram(TEE) is a special type of echocardiogram. It is usually done when your doctor wants to look more closely at your heart to see if it could be producing blood clots. Like an echocardiogram, the TEE uses high-frequency sound waves(ultrasound) to examine the structures of the heart. A transducer(a unit that directs the sound waves) is placed in the esophagus(the pipe that connects the mouth to the stomach). The esophagus is close to the heart, so images from a TEE can give very clear pictures of the heart and its structures. 2, record 82, English, - transesophageal%20echocardiography

3, record 82, French, - %C3%A9chocardiographie%20trans%26oelig%3Bsophagienne

Balloon cardiac catheters improve or restore coronary blood flow. Doctors often use this type of coronary intervention to inhibit the effects of coronary artery disease where dangerous plaque build-up clogs arteries that supply blood to the heart. After placement with a guide wire, an inflatable balloon sits on the tip of the catheter and expands inside the artery to increase coronary circulation, allow for stent placement and deflates for removal after the artery is opened... An over-the-wire balloon catheter has two lumens : one for the guide wire and the other for balloon inflation. The guide wire exists independent of the balloon so two operators must perform the coronary procedure. A criticism of the over-the-wire catheter includes increased radiation exposure due to increased fluoroscopy time during balloon placement. 1, record 84, English, - over%2Dthe%2Dwire%20balloon%20catheter

Restrictive cardiomyopathy(RCM) is a rare form of heart muscle disease that is characterized by restrictive filling of the ventricles. In this disease the contractile function(squeeze) of the heart and wall thicknesses are usually normal, but the relaxation or filling phase of the heart is very abnormal. This occurs because the heart muscle is stiff and poorly compliant and does not allow the ventricular chambers to fill with blood normally. This inability to relax and fill with blood results in a “back up” of blood into the atria(top chambers of the heart), lungs and body causing the symptoms and signs of heart failure. 2, record 93, English, - restrictive%20cardiomyopathy
