HEAT BUBBLE [5 records]

Record 1 2023-06-02

English

Subject field(s)
  • Atmospheric, Climatic and Meteorological Phenomena
DEF

A weather phenomenon in which an area experiences stifling heat when a system of high pressure pushes very warm air downward and keeps it trapped as if in a bubble.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Phénomènes météorologiques, climatiques et atmosphériques
CONT

Subject field(s)
  • Effects of Pollution
CONT

Since alteration means change, change in the environment is synonymous with alteration. In this case, it is a change for the worse. Often the effects of alteration are neither immediately discernible nor accurately predictable. Who can foresee what will happen to a 1970 American baby who is born in an air-conditioned hospital, taken home in an air-conditioned car, reared in an air-conditioned apartment, schooled in an air-conditioned school and amused by recreational activities in an air-conditioned bubble? This unnatural alteration of normal rises and falls in daily temperature may result in eventual genetic changes. And what alteration is being wrought on the urban atmosphere during the summer while hundreds of thousands of air-conditioned apartments and homes pump their waste heat out into the atmosphere and the occupants undergo alteration of temperature and humidity inside? Undesirable levels of pollutants-toxic and otherwise-of course cause alteration of air, water and soil.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Effets de la pollution
OBS

Larousse].

Subject field(s)
  • Orbital Stations
  • Research Experiments in Space
CONT

The Fluids Physics Experiment Facility(FPEF) [is] intended to support fluid physics experiments involving phenomena such as Marangoni convection, bubble generation, heat transfer, liquid wettability, combustion and bubble behavior in a moderate temperature environment. The FPEF is currently scheduled to share rack space with the Solution/Protein Crystal Growth Facility and the Image Processing Unit.

OBS

fluid physics experiment facility; FPEF: term and abbreviation officially approved by the International Space Station official approval Group (ISSOAG).

French

Domaine(s)
  • Stations orbitales
  • Travaux de recherche dans l'espace
OBS

Subject field(s)
  • Refractory Materials (Metallurgy)
CONT

As they fall in a drop tube, the droplets would then cool primarily by radiating heat so that they would solidify from the outside inward. As the metal cools, much of the dissolved gas would come out of solution and move toward the hotter region at the center of a droplet, where it would form a bubble.

  • Matériaux réfractaires (Métallurgie)
OBS
