Simple vacuum-packaging machines, suited to less developed regions, are available. They consist of a chamber with a removable lid, so that the plastic pouch or bag containing the product can be placed inside the chamber, which is evacuated with an electrically driven vacuum pump. By closing the lid, air can be drawn out of the chamber and also out of the open bag. While still in the vacuum chamber, the bag is hermetically closed by heat sealing by means of a manual or automatic electrically heated sealing device. 1, record 1, English, - vacuum%20chamber

2, record 1, French, - chambre%20%C3%A0%20vide

We are deeply involved in cogeneration plants including biomass and gas turbines. ... Co-Generation Power Island. .... "Power Islands," "Merchant Plants," "Across the Fence Cogeneration," "Third Party Steam Plants," and "Client CHP" are some of the names used to refer to unconventional commercial arrangements for the production and procurement of steam and electrical power to pulp and paper mills. Although the term "Power Island" is often used to describe third party cogeneration facilities, the concept is completely different from an island. The power house that provides the steam and power to the mill has a direct and immediate effect on the pulp mill’s operational stability and uptime as well as the operating costs. 2, record 10, English, - power%20island

The IGCC [Integrated Gasification with Combined Cycle] demonstration plant in Puertollano features many advantages compared to conventional coal fired power stations with flue gas desulphurization(FGD) and DeNOx systems :... The plant consists of the following three main units : Power island, gasification island, and oxygen production plant(Air Separation).... The power island. The combined cycle in the Puertollano plant... can be operated both with natural gas and synthesis gas. The main features are : A 200 MWe(ISO) Siemens model V94. 3 gas turbine. A three-pressure level and IP steam reheating heat recovery steam generator designed by Babcock able to additionally superheat the steam generated through raw gas cooling in the gasification. A two casing reheat steam turbine designed by Siemens that delivers roughly 135 MWe. The clean coal gas is burned by the coal gas burners in the combustion chamber of the gas turbine. The key feature of the tokamak is its central, hollow, donut shaped chamber. Huge electric currents pass through the coils surrounding the chamber and through the plasma inside it creating a powerful magnetic field that holds the plasma in place. The runaway neutrons have no charge and therefore not influenced by the strong magnetic field. Neutrons fly in straight paths and smash into the atoms of the reactor walls. During such collisions the considerable kinetic energy is transformed into heat energy which is used to heat steam to drive electrical generators. 1, record 11, English, - runaway%20neutron

Systems Analysis of a Future Semi-Reusable Launcher, Based on a High Thrust Bleed Cycle Rocket Engine. In this paper a high thrust, cryogenic bleed cycle engine, to be used for propulsion of future reusable booster stages(liquid fly back boosters), of an expendable heavy lift launcher, is analyzed. The system configuration remains unchanged, in terms of total available fuel and the number of engines, hereas the variation of the engine parameters result in a change of total system mass and payload capacity. Different arrangements of bleed cycles are being analyzed, and compared with each other. The paper describes a simplified heat transfer model, used in the analysis of the suggested cycles. The thrust chamber design is discussed and a preliminary design of the booster vehicle, including a trajectory analysis, is presented. 3, record 15, English, - semi%2Dreusable%20launcher

Computer simulation of single-well steam assisted gravity drainage(SW-SAGD).... Steam assisted gravity drainage(SAGD) is an effective method of producing heavy oil and bitumen. In a typical SAGD approach, steam is injected into a horizontal well located directly above a horizontal producer. A steam chamber grows around the injection well and helps displace heated oil toward the production well. Single-well(SW) SAGD attempts to create a similar process using only one horizontal well. This may include steam injection from the toe of the horizontal well with production at the heel. Obvious advantages of SW-SAGD include cost savings and utility in relatively thin reservoirs. However, the process is technically challenging. To improve early-time response of SW-SAGD, it is necessary to heat the nearwellbore area to reduce oil viscosity and allow gravity drainage to take place. 1, record 18, English, - single%2Dwell%20steam%20assisted%20gravity%20drainage

2, record 18, French, - drainage%20gravitaire%20assist%C3%A9%20par%20injection%20de%20vapeur%20sur%20puits%20unique

A pneumatic rate-of-rise spot detector consists of a small dome-shaped air chamber with a flexible metal diaphragm in the base. A small metering hole allows air to enter and exit the chamber during normal rise and fall of atmospheric temperature and barometric pressure. In the heat of a fire, however, the air within the chamber expands faster than it can escape through the metering hole. This expansion causes the pressure within the chamber to increase, forcing the metal diaphragm against contact points in the alarm circuit. An alarm signal to the system control unit results. This type of detector is most often combined in one unit that also has fixed-temperature capability. 1, record 19, English, - pneumatic%20rate%2Dof%2Drise%20spot%20detector

1, record 19, French, - d%C3%A9tecteur%20ponctuel%20thermov%C3%A9locim%C3%A9trique%20pneumatique

The Ausroc 3(A3) launch vehicle has a liquid fuelled motor that burns JA-1 kerosene with liquid oxygen, and uses regenerative cooling. The motor produces 35 kN at sea level and has a burn time of 80 seconds. The motor is gimballed to facilitate pitch and yaw control. The wall of the combustion chamber, throat and expansion nozzle consists of 102 stainless steel tubes stacked side by side running parallel to the motor axis. The tubes will be brazed together and the assembly wrapped in a carbon fibre composite. The composite wrapping is used to relieve to tubes of the hoop stress generated by the combustion pressure(2 MPa), whilst the tubes contain the combustion heat(3500 K). The top end of the motor has a kerosene inlet manifolt, oxygen dome and injector block. The kerosene inlet manifold delivers kerosene to every second motor tube, where it travels down to the arse end of the motor. Here it enters the lower kerosene manifold which is a simple plenum ring. This allows the kerosene to flow into the other alternate tubes which deliver it back up to the inlet manifold. The inlet manifold then directs the kerosene to the injector block, which sprays it and the liquid oxygen into the combustion chamber. 2, record 24, English, - liquid%20fuelled%20motor

An atomic absorption spectrophotometer measures element concentrations in solution by spraying(nebulising) the solution into a long narrow hot flame. Light from a hollow cathode lamp, containing the element to be analysed, passes above the long and narrow burner to a monochromator. The monochromator isolates ground state radiation from the hollow cathode lamp. The solution is sprayed into the fuel and air premixing chamber feeding the flame. Free atoms are produced in the flame because of the heat and reducing conditions. If the atoms are the same as the element in the lamp, then light is absorbed. The degree of absorption depends on the amount of that element present in the original solution. The results are compared with standard solutions which allow concentrations to be determined. The technique can be highly precise and accurate. 2, record 26, English, - atomic%20absorption%20spectrometer

Densified Pellet Technology. Pellets are dried ground wood or other biomass waste compressed into small cylinders about 6 mm(1/4 in.) in diameter and 25 mm(1 in.) long. The pressure and heat created during their production binds the pellets together without the need for additives. Pellet-burning appliances include a hopper to hold at least 20 kg of fuel and a screw auger to move the pellets from the hopper into the combustion chamber. Pellets usually burn cleanly because they are fed to the combustion chamber at a controlled rate and are matched with the right amount of combustion air. These appliances are generally able to operate at lower emission levels than natural firewood appliances. 2, record 30, English, - densified%20pellet

In a pneumatic plant the germination bed depth will often be greater than one meter. If left alone, the heat produced would accelerate growth and the roots would matt together forming a solid mass. This was the problem that Galland had in his first plan. To overcome this, the bed must have a perforated floor with a chamber below so that air can be blown through the bed. Hence the term pneumatic malting. This air must be humidified to stop the grain from drying out, but more water will be lost from the bed than in floor malting. Additionally, the grain bed must be turned using large helical screw turners. 2, record 32, English, - pneumatic%20malting

Environmental Control Systems Trainer. Additional training in the operation of the environmental control system was provided by the environmental control systems trainer which was a heavy shell mock-up with a prototype spacecraft environmental system. The device used was delivered to NASA in November 1960 and installed in a man-rated vacuum chamber at the U. S. Naval Air Crew Equipment Laboratory in Philadelphia(fig. 10-1(1)). During December of 1960 and January of 1961, the astronauts participated in a program of system familiarization that included being exposed to a simulated reentry heat pulse and approximately 2 hours of the expected postlanding temperature. During these runs, the astronauts wore the pressure suits and became familiar with function of the suits when associated with the environmental control system. However, since a provision had been made for simulating the suit function in the procedures trainer, this type of training was not considered essential This was particularly true since the astronauts received further first-hand familiarization to the environmental control system by participating in the preflight checkout of the spacecraft environmental control system at the launch site. 2, record 34, English, - man%2Drated%20vacuum%20chamber

The compost finishing drawer, the second independent chamber [of the three chamber system], is immediately below the composting drum, and just above the evaporating chamber. Compost in this drawer is totally isolated from material in the Bio-drum. Although it is no longer subject to contamination from fresh waste, it should not be used on edible vegetable. While in the finishing drawer, the compost is surrounded by a stream of drying air, and absorbs the radiant heat from the evaporating chamber. It is here that composting and sanitation are completed, and the compost becomes safe to handle. The finishing drawer can be pulled out and removed by hand(no tools or screws are needed) and the sanitized compost emptied whenever it is necessary to extract more compost from the drum. 1, record 38, English, - compost%20finishing%20drawer

The "Sun-Mar" three chamber system... The composting chamber. "Sun-Mar" engineers found that the ideal conditions for fast, odorless composting could only be provided in a rotating drum,(we call it the Bio-drum). The Bio-drum is uniquely able to keep the compost completely oxygenated, mixed, moist and warm, and so provide perfect conditions for fast, aerobic(and therefore odorless) composting. Waste enters the composting drum through an entry port located in the top of the Bio-drum. By turning the handle on the front of the unit, the drum rotates, and the compost tumbles,(assisted by a mixing baffle) thereby thoroughly and completely oxygenating and mixing every part of the compost. The Bio-drum is fitted with a door which closes automatically to keep the waste inside as the drum rotates. After turning, a lock automatically maintains the Bio-drum in a top dead centre position ready to receive new material. To ensure that the compost cannot get saturated, a screen at the rear of the drum filters any excess liquid directly into the evaporating chamber. At the same time, by protecting the compost from direct heat, the Bio-drum keeps the compost uniformly moist. Lastly, the Bio-drum has the volume to hold the necessary mass of material to retain the natural heat developed in the core of the compost. Insulation on the outside of the drum prevents heat loss. The warm, moist, oxygen rich conditions in the Bio-drum allow the microbes to quickly break down the waste into its essential minerals. When the drum gets 2/3 full, some compost is extracted into the finishing drawer. This is done simply by pulling the drum lock, and rotating the drum backwards. Now, the drum door remains open, and compost falls into the second chamber;-the compost finishing drawer. 1, record 39, English, - composting%20chamber

Le système à trois compartiments «Sun-Mar». [...] 1, record 39, French, - compartiment%20%C3%A0%20compostage

Most modern space heaters are controlled combustion or airtight designed. The flow of air into the combustion chamber is regulated almost exclusively by controls such as screw-in draft caps or thermostatic control units. These devices allow greater control over the rate of combustion and, therefore, the heat output... Airtight space heater can be fabricated from continuously welded heavy gauge steel..., from thin sheet metal with cast iron or firebrick liners. 1, record 50, English, - airtight%20space%20heater

(...) vertical chambers-usually of circular cross-section-with grate hearths through which oxygen-bearing gas, usually air, is blown. As the concentrate is fed to the chamber, air is blown through the grate at a rate sufficient to hold the solid particles in suspension, the mixture of air and solids having the flow characteristics of a fluid. Since each sulfide particle is in constant turbulent motion in the furnace atmosphere, roasting is uniform and rapid, with efficient heat transfer and high oxygen utilization. 3, record 55, English, - fluid%20bed%20roaster

1, record 55, French, - four%20%C3%A0%20lit%20fluidis%C3%A9

In the Spooner travelling oven the hot air circulates rapidly in a closed circuit, the small temperature drop on each cycle being made good by heat from the burner. The hot air enters the baking chamber, top and bottom, through patent nozzles, which ensure that the heat is evenly distributed over the whole length and width of the conveyor.(...) 1, record 56, French, - four%20%C3%A0%20convection%20forc%C3%A9e
