Mothballing is the process of stabilizing a facility so that no damage occurs to the facility should it make sense at a later time to incur the capital expenditures associated with continuing to operate, extending the life, or repowering the facility. Typically, a decision to mothball a facility might be made as a hedge against, or in anticipation of, changes in market conditions; i. e., increases in relative fuel prices, or an increase in the value of installed capacity.... Typical activities involved in mothballing a facility might include the following types of activities intended to preserve existing equipment :-’Racking Out’ or removal and storage of motor control center circuit breakers or 'switchgear’(this would also be done for a facility that has been retired and is scheduled for dismantling)-Placing a heat source or desiccants in the furnace to maintain a temperature above the dew point(at which condensation collects and corrodes the boiler structures.)-The application of grease or other coatings to reduce corrosion of components such as pumps and motors.-The installation of an air desiccant system to blow dry air through the steam turbine, condenser, boiler tubes and pipes. 2, record 1, English, - mothballing

StratSat provides a geo-stationary platform at 20 km altitude capable of remaining on-station for up to five years. Payloads include high speed Internet services, direct broadcast TV, mobile telecommunication, etc. The envelope operates as a super-pressure hull(i. e. with no ballonet pressure control system). The hull will be of laminated fabric construction with Tedlar/Teflon, helium/weather barrier developed from AT-10/04. Multiple catenary curtain system supporting a payload module enclosed completely by the envelope. [The] payload module... comprises a single structural module with an externally mounted payload/mission system. The payload module provides a home for all of the airship's primary systems except for the propulsion system. The systems are close packed within the highly insulated module ensuring efficient heat and energy management. The payload module is pendulum stabilised within the envelope. The solar array provides the sole source of renewable energy for the airship. The array is placed over the upper quarter of the hull and extends over approximately three-quarters of the length of the craft. The array can be realigned to the daily sun location/angle by the roll rotation of the whole airship. The energy collected by the solar array is stored for use during the night in the series of batteries. Located in the stored for use during the night in a series of batteries. Located in the payload module, the batteries run the propulsion system, airship services and provide power to the mission system for up to 14 hours(during winter). The airship is propelled and steered by means of a ’Contra-Rotating Coned Rotor’ mounted on a tailcone at the rear of the envelope, as a part of a compound propulsion system. The unit provides longitudinal thrust(to counter the prevailing stratospheric winds) and lateral force(for manoeuvering) to enable the airship to hold station within a 1 km cube. The airship will be equipped with a multi-channel Flight Control Sy 7, record 4, English, - StratSat%C2%AE

Trips employing auxiliary trip units include the Loss of Load trip and the APD – High trip. The Loss of Load trip is a contact input from the Electro Hydraulic Control System control oil pressure on each of the four high pressure stop valves. … 10. Loss of Load. The Loss of Load(turbine stop valve(TSV) control oil pressure) trip is anticipatory for the loss of heat removal capabilities of the secondary system following a turbine trip. The Loss of Load trip prevents lifting the pressurizer saftey valves, PORVs and MSSVs in the event of a turbine generator trip. Thus, the trip minimizes the pressure and temperature transients on the reactor by initiating a trip well before reaching the Pressurizer Pressure – High trip and pressurizer safety valve setpoints. The four RPS Loss of Load reactor trip channels receive their input from sensors mounted on the high pressure TSV actuators. Since there are four high pressure TSVs, one actuator per valve and one sensor per actuator, each sensor sends its signal to a different RPS channel. When the turbine trips, control oil is dumped from the high pressure TSVs. When the control oil pressure drops to the appropriate setpoint, a reactor trip signal is generated. 1, record 5, English, - load%20reactor%20trip%20channel

Cycling sprinkler. A development by the sprinkler industry is a sprinkler that cycles on and off as needed.... Under normal conditions, the pilot valve is held closed by the snap disc. Water in the piston chamber holds the piston closed. When the snap disc is heated to the rated temperature, it opens the pilot valve and releases the water from the piston chamber. Leaks... fall into two basic types : internal leakage [such] as a thin oil film is built into the working parts of a hydraulic system. This lubricates the mating surfaces of valve spools, cylinder pistons, and other moving parts. Oil is not lost through this normal internal leakage since it eventually returns to the system reservoir. However, too much internal leakage will slow the operation of the system and waste power through the generation of heat. In some cases, it may cause cylinders to creep or drift. Or it may cause loss of oil control in the valves.... External oil leaks not only look bad-they can be expensive and hazardous.... A small leak can also be the signal for a hydraulic rupture that may injure a person while putting the machine out of operation.... Every joint in a hydraulic circuit is a potential point of leakage. This is why the number of connections in a system is kept at a minimum. Components can leak, but care in assembly and use of new seals and gaskets during overhaul will help to reduce this problem. 2, record 12, English, - leak

Environment Control and Life Support System(ECLSS) : The orbiter's Environmental Control and Life-Support System purifies the cabin air, adds fresh oxygen, keeps the pressure at sea level, heats and cools the air, and provides drinking and wash water. The system also includes lavatory facilities. The cabin is pressurized to sea level(14. 7 psi) with 21 percent oxygen and 79 percent nitrogen, comparable to Earth's atmosphere. The air is circulated through lithium hydroxide/charcoal canisters which remove carbon dioxide. The canisters are changed on a regular basis. Excess heat from the cabin and flight-deck electronics is collected by a circulating coolant water system and transferred to radiator panels on the payload bay doors where it is dissipated. The fuel cells produce about seven pounds of water each hour. It is stored in tanks, and excess water is dumped overboard. The lavatory unit collects and processes body waste, and also collects wash water from the personal hygiene station. The lavatory unit, located in the middeck area, operates much like those on commercial airlines but is designed for a weightless space environment. 3, record 21, English, - environment%20control%20and%20life%20support%20system

A pneumatic rate-of-rise spot detector consists of a small dome-shaped air chamber with a flexible metal diaphragm in the base. A small metering hole allows air to enter and exit the chamber during normal rise and fall of atmospheric temperature and barometric pressure. In the heat of a fire, however, the air within the chamber expands faster than it can escape through the metering hole. This expansion causes the pressure within the chamber to increase, forcing the metal diaphragm against contact points in the alarm circuit. An alarm signal to the system control unit results. This type of detector is most often combined in one unit that also has fixed-temperature capability. 1, record 24, English, - pneumatic%20rate%2Dof%2Drise%20spot%20detector

Environmental Control Systems Trainer. Additional training in the operation of the environmental control system was provided by the environmental control systems trainer which was a heavy shell mock-up with a prototype spacecraft environmental system. The device used was delivered to NASA in November 1960 and installed in a man-rated vacuum chamber at the U. S. Naval Air Crew Equipment Laboratory in Philadelphia(fig. 10-1(1)). During December of 1960 and January of 1961, the astronauts participated in a program of system familiarization that included being exposed to a simulated reentry heat pulse and approximately 2 hours of the expected postlanding temperature. During these runs, the astronauts wore the pressure suits and became familiar with function of the suits when associated with the environmental control system. However, since a provision had been made for simulating the suit function in the procedures trainer, this type of training was not considered essential This was particularly true since the astronauts received further first-hand familiarization to the environmental control system by participating in the preflight checkout of the spacecraft environmental control system at the launch site. 2, record 33, English, - man%2Drated%20vacuum%20chamber

The freeze prevention system maintains the air-conditioning system in a freeze free operating condition in cold weather with extremely high humidity on the ground. The system is located in the aft accessory compartment and consists of a temperature control(modulating and shut-off) valve, temperature control thermostat, mufflers, and ducts. The ground operated APU is used with the left-hand pack to provide the warm air required to raise the temperature of the heat exchanger cooling air. 2, record 40, English, - freeze%20prevention%20system

Forced Air Wood Furnaces. Central wood-burning furnaces are controlled by a wall mounted thermostat in the living area. Temperature and fan controls are the same as those found on oil and gas furnaces. Unlike room heaters, which produce a steady heat output by periodic manual adjustments of the draft control, most wood furnaces operate in cycles. A cycle starts with the thermostat sensing that heat is needed in the room where it is located. It signals the furnace control system which opens the combustion air damper and a hot fire develops. When the air inside the furnace's sheet metal casing gets hot, a preset fan control starts the circulating blower and the warm air is moved through the ducts to all areas of the house. 1, record 42, English, - forced%20air%20wood%20furnace
