Trips employing auxiliary trip units include the Loss of Load trip and the APD – High trip. The Loss of Load trip is a contact input from the Electro Hydraulic Control System control oil pressure on each of the four high pressure stop valves. … 10. Loss of Load. The Loss of Load(turbine stop valve(TSV) control oil pressure) trip is anticipatory for the loss of heat removal capabilities of the secondary system following a turbine trip. The Loss of Load trip prevents lifting the pressurizer saftey valves, PORVs and MSSVs in the event of a turbine generator trip. Thus, the trip minimizes the pressure and temperature transients on the reactor by initiating a trip well before reaching the Pressurizer Pressure – High trip and pressurizer safety valve setpoints. The four RPS Loss of Load reactor trip channels receive their input from sensors mounted on the high pressure TSV actuators. Since there are four high pressure TSVs, one actuator per valve and one sensor per actuator, each sensor sends its signal to a different RPS channel. When the turbine trips, control oil is dumped from the high pressure TSVs. When the control oil pressure drops to the appropriate setpoint, a reactor trip signal is generated.

CONT

A fire sprinkler system shall be provided that will automatically shut-off the water supply flow control valve when the fires heat source has been controlled and a soak timer has expired. If the fires heat source was to regenerate, the fire sprinkler system shall automatically reopen. This cycling feature of the sprinkler system shall not be dependent on manual supervision. Cycling fire sprinkler system shall be a closed head type of preaction system with a supplemental detection system which will activate flow control valve.

CONT

Cycling sprinkler. A development by the sprinkler industry is a sprinkler that cycles on and off as needed.... Under normal conditions, the pilot valve is held closed by the snap disc. Water in the piston chamber holds the piston closed. When the snap disc is heated to the rated temperature, it opens the pilot valve and releases the water from the piston chamber. This allows the piston to open and water to flow from the sprinkler. When the snap disc cools to approximately 100°F, it closes the pilot valve.

Leaks... fall into two basic types : internal leakage [such] as a thin oil film is built into the working parts of a hydraulic system. This lubricates the mating surfaces of valve spools, cylinder pistons, and other moving parts. Oil is not lost through this normal internal leakage since it eventually returns to the system reservoir. However, too much internal leakage will slow the operation of the system and waste power through the generation of heat. In some cases, it may cause cylinders to creep or drift. Or it may cause loss of oil control in the valves.... External oil leaks not only look bad-they can be expensive and hazardous.... A small leak can also be the signal for a hydraulic rupture that may injure a person while putting the machine out of operation.... Every joint in a hydraulic circuit is a potential point of leakage. This is why the number of connections in a system is kept at a minimum. Components can leak, but care in assembly and use of new seals and gaskets during overhaul will help to reduce this problem.
