There is an alternative between closed-and open-loop systems called standing column wells(SCWs). In a SCW, groundwater is pumped from the base of a deep well and directed to a heat exchanger.... A SCW consists of a long borehole mostly drilled in the bedrock and filled with groundwater... Typical installations use a PVC [polyvinyl chloride] pipe almost as long as the well within which a submersible pump is installed. In a conventional SCW, groundwater is pumped at the bottom of the well through a PVC pipe and returned below the dynamic level in the annular space of the borehole via a rejection pipe.... Before reinjecting the groundwater into the SCW, part of the flow rate can be diverted into a separate injection well. This process is called "bleed" and improves the system performance by attracting water from the undisturbed neighbouring ground through aquifer fractures. The bleed induces heat transfer by advection..., which improves significantly the thermal efficiency of the SCW. 2, record 1, English, - standing%20column%20well

3, record 1, French, - puits%20%C3%A0%20colonne%20permanente

The mixing damper controls flow from the left inlet branch as a percentage of the mixed-air flow, subject to a preset minimum. The minimum can be scheduled or modulated by a time-switch profile in the damper component dialog. A controller then modulates flow from the left branch vs. bottom branch as a percentage of the outlet flow rate or in an attempt to achieve a target mixed-air temperature. Typical applications include outside air economizers, demand-controlled ventilation, and bypass dampers for heat-recovery, indirect evaporative cooling, heat pipes, coils with high static pressure, or similar components within an air handler. 1, record 3, English, - mixing%20damper

1, record 7, French, - coefficient%20de%20transfert%20de%20chaleur

The condensate that forms in the dryer cylinders is removed by a specially-designed syphon assembly.... at the high speeds of modern paper machines, the condensate layer has become so immobilized that even a very thin layer is a significant impediment to heat flow. Fortunately, the condensate layer still has some peripheral motion at high machine speed. This motion can be converted into a wave action by means of "dryer bars" attached axially to the interior surface of the dryer cylinder. This wave action(called "sloshing") greatly decreases the thermal resistance of the rimming condensate, and thus allows an increased rate of heat transfer. 1, record 13, English, - sloshing

Resistance to Temperature. ASTM Recommended Practice D 794 describes high-temperature testing for plastics. Only the procedure for heat exposure is specified, the test method being governed by the potential end use. Heat is applied using an oven with controlled air flow and with substantial fresh air intake. Two types of tests are described : continuous heat and cyclic heat. In the former, heat is gradually increased until failure occurs. Failure is defined as a change in appearance, weight, dimension, or other property that alters the material to a degree that it is no longer serviceable for the purpose in question. The test may take minutes to weeks, depending on the rate of temperature increase. The cyclic heat test repeatedly applies heat of a constant value until failure. 1, record 14, English, - cyclic%20heat%20test

Oil furnaces. Indoor oil furnaces... are available in upflow, downflow, horizontal and low-boy configurations for ducted systems. They are also available as floor furnaces, wall furnaces, and free standing space heaters. Oil-fired outdoor furnaces and combination units are rare.... The ducted system, oil-fired, forced air furnaces are usually equipped with pressure-atomizing burners. The pump pressure and the orifice size of the injection nozzle regulate the firing rate of the furnace. Electric ignition is used to ignite the burners.... The combustion chamber and heat exchanger of oil-fired furnaces are normally formed as a common single chamber. It is formed from heavy gage steel into a welded assembly. The hot flue products flow through the inside of the heat exchanger into the chimney. The conditioned air flows over the outside of the heat exchanger and into the air supply plenum. 1, record 16, English, - oil%20furnace

5, record 16, French, - g%C3%A9n%C3%A9rateur%20%C3%A0%20mazout

Most modern space heaters are controlled combustion or airtight designed. The flow of air into the combustion chamber is regulated almost exclusively by controls such as screw-in draft caps or thermostatic control units. These devices allow greater control over the rate of combustion and, therefore, the heat output... Rate of heat removal by a refrigerant in a refrigerating system. This equals the product of the mass rate of refrigerant flow in the system and the difference in specific enthalpies of the refrigerant at two designated points in the system or two designated thermodynamic states of the refrigerant. The term refrigerating effect is used to denote heat transfer to or from the refrigerant itself in a refrigeration system, whereas refrigerating capacity denotes the rate of heat removal from a medium or space to be cooled. 2, record 18, English, - refrigerating%20effect

1, record 19, French, - four%20%C3%A0%20lit%20fluidis%C3%A9
