At selected locations in the U. S. Lab(9 ISPRs-International Standard Payload Racks) and the [Japanese Experiment Module-JEM](5 ISPRs), a low-temperature water loop(0. 6-10 °C or 33-50 °F) is provided via a 1. 3 cm(0. 5 in.) line with a quick-disconnect. The maximum return temperature on this loop is 21 °C(70 °F). A pressure drop of 40 kPa(5. 8 psid) is allowed across the inlet and outlet of both water loop interfaces. Payloads can also dissipate small amounts of heat into the cabin air. Depending on the temperature conditions set by the crew, a minimum of 500 W can be dissipated into both the U. S. Lab and Columbus(complement of all payloads within the module). Negotiations are underway with Japan on the allowable heat dissipation into the JEM.

The mixing damper controls flow from the left inlet branch as a percentage of the mixed-air flow, subject to a preset minimum. The minimum can be scheduled or modulated by a time-switch profile in the damper component dialog. A controller then modulates flow from the left branch vs. bottom branch as a percentage of the outlet flow rate or in an attempt to achieve a target mixed-air temperature. Typical applications include outside air economizers, demand-controlled ventilation, and bypass dampers for heat-recovery, indirect evaporative cooling, heat pipes, coils with high static pressure, or similar components within an air handler.

CONT

The system is the part of the physical world that is the object of a thermodynamic calculation. It may be a fixed amount of material inside a tank, a gas compressor with the associated inlet and outlet streams, or an entire chemical plant. Once the system is defined, anything that lies outside the system boundaries belongs to the surroundings. Together system and surroundings constitute the universe. A system can interact with its surroundings by exchanging mass, heat, and work. It is possible to construct the system in such way that some exchanges are allowed while others are not.... If it can exchange heat with the surroundings it is called "diathermal, "otherwise it is called "adiabatic. "

The pagula ventilated ceiling system forms an important part of a total balanced mechanical ventilation system. It is particularly suitable for ventilating rooms with high steam and latent heat Generation, such as kitchens. The design of the pagula system ensures that draught free whole room ventilation is provided with efficient grease and moisture separation on the extract to keep the ceiling plenum and extract system clean. DEF

A component of a steam-generating unit that absorbs heat from the products of combustion after they have passed through the steam-generating and superheating sections.

CONT

Heat recovered from the gas is recycled to the furnace by the combustion air and is absorbed in the steam-generating unit, with a resultant gain in overall thermal efficiency... Air heaters frequently are used in conjunction with economizers, because the temperature of the inlet air is less than that of the feedwater to the economizer...

CONT

Air heaters are usually classed as recuperative or regenerative types. Both types depend upon convection transfer of heat from the gas stream to a metal or other solid surface and upon convection transfer of heat from this surface to the air.

CONT

The Ausroc 3(A3) launch vehicle has a liquid fuelled motor that burns JA-1 kerosene with liquid oxygen, and uses regenerative cooling. The motor produces 35 kN at sea level and has a burn time of 80 seconds. The motor is gimballed to facilitate pitch and yaw control. The wall of the combustion chamber, throat and expansion nozzle consists of 102 stainless steel tubes stacked side by side running parallel to the motor axis. The tubes will be brazed together and the assembly wrapped in a carbon fibre composite. The composite wrapping is used to relieve to tubes of the hoop stress generated by the combustion pressure(2 MPa), whilst the tubes contain the combustion heat(3500 K). The top end of the motor has a kerosene inlet manifolt, oxygen dome and injector block. The kerosene inlet manifold delivers kerosene to every second motor tube, where it travels down to the arse end of the motor. Here it enters the lower kerosene manifold which is a simple plenum ring. This allows the kerosene to flow into the other alternate tubes which deliver it back up to the inlet manifold. The inlet manifold then directs the kerosene to the injector block, which sprays it and the liquid oxygen into the combustion chamber.

Fluid-fluid heat exchanger made of two concentric pipe sections; one fluid (such as a coolant) flows in the annular space between pipes, and the other fluid (such as hot process stream) flows through the inner pipe.

CONT

The condenser is also a Model no. 06036 shell and tube exchanger, identical to the reboiler with a few modifications : The baffles have been cut at the bottom where they meet the shell to allow condensate to flow out of the shell. The tube side has four passes for maximum heat transfer on the tube side. It is mounted nearly horizontally. The inlet end is a couple of inches higher than the outlet to allow condensate to drain out the low end. A few tubes have been removed at the top to give the vapor more room to distribute itself along the length of the shell. There is a vent on the shell side near the outlet end to allow non-condensable gases to leave. The vent gases pass through the inside of a 36" double pipe condenser so that any condensable gasses will condense out and run down the walls back into the condenser.

In order to more readily understand a steam booster we should cover the basic construction of an average steam booster which would be as follows : A series of copper tubings or coils are fastened together so that a 120° water can be supplied at one end and(if all other requirements are met) 180° water will pass through the other end. This series of coils is placed inside a heavy metal container, the container also has an inlet and an outlet, into which we pass live steam at the required pressures. The steam circulates around the coils and losing its heat by transferring its high temperature to the lower temperature water, soon condensation accumulates at the bottom of the container. The condensation then passes through the discharge opening into either a waste line or what is known as a return line which is piped directly to the boiler where it is again heated into steam for recycling through the very same booster.
