Chaufferette.

Nearly all industrial welding involves fusion. The edges or surfaces to be welded are brought to the molten state. The liquid metal bridges the gap between the parts. After the source of welding heat has been removed, the liquid solidifies, thus joining or welding the parts together.

Cork Insulation. Cork is the outer bark of an oak tree that flourishes only in the area surrounding the western Mediterranean Sea. Instead of being fibrous in structure, the bark of the cork oak is composed of tiny cells, so small that there are 200 million of them to every cubic inch of cork bark. These tiny cells give cork a high resistance to the passage of heat. Each cell is filled with still air, and next to a vacuum, still air is the best insulation known. Because the cells are so tiny, no convection currents in the air can be established to reduce its insulation properties. The cellular structure gives the material its high degree of natural moisture resistance. Each tiny cork cell is a perfect geometric shape, having 14 sides. The volume of cork includes more than 75% air. Its thermal conductivity is 0. 26 Btu per square foot per hour per degree temperature difference at 60 degrees F.(metric), and 0. 30 Btu per square foot per degree temperature difference at 180 degrees F(metric). 2, record 26, English, - cork%20insulation

Polymer bonded magnets are widely being used in many automotive and non-automotive industries. Because of their many advantages such as low weight, resistance to corrosion and ease of machining the demand for bonded magnets is rising sharply.... But, the presently available bonded magnets are limited in their applications at high temperatures due to the low energy product and poor heat resistance properties. Therefore, a need exists to develop bonded magnets with higher energy product that can withstand operating temperatures of at least 180°C and higher. A key issue is the identification of suitable magnetic powders and polymer matrices, which can perform satisfactorily at the desired temperatures. 3, record 41, English, - polybonded%20magnet

During dynamic braking, the rotors of the electric motors are allowed to rotate and produce electricity. By generating electricity, the conversion of energy provides resistance to movement that reduces the speed of the train. The converted electrical energy is then used or expelled into the atmosphere as heat. Dynamic braking is a general term used to describe the use of an electric motor as a generator to dissipate energy. 2, record 49, English, - dynamic%20braking

Rheostatic braking occurs when the electrical energy that is produced is run through resistors and dissipated as heat energy. 2, record 49, English, - dynamic%20braking

The term "solid state" refers to the fact that light in an LED is emitted from a solid object(a block of semiconductor) rather than from a vacuum or gas tube, as is the case in traditional incandescent light bulbs and fluorescent lamps. Unlike traditional lighting, however, SSL creates visible light with virtually no heat or parasitic energy dissipation. In addition, its solid-state nature provides for greater resistance to shock, vibration, and wear, thereby increasing its lifespan significantly. 3, record 52, English, - solid%2Dstate%20lighting

Hot-wire anemometer ... is an important device used principally in research on air turbulence and boundary layers. There are two types, known as constant-voltage and constant-temperature. The cooling of an electrically heated fine wire placed in a gas stream which alters wire resistance depends on the fluid velocity. With the constant-voltage type, as soon as the gas starts flowing, the hot wire cools off, the voltage across a Wheatstone bridge connected to the wire is kept constant, and the calibrated galvanometer shows a reading related to the velocity. 5, record 54, English, - hot%2Dwire%20anemometer

Polymer bonded magnets are widely being used in many automotive and non-automotive industries. Because of their many advantages such as low weight, resistance to corrosion and ease of machining the demand for bonded magnets is rising sharply... 1, record 66, English, - bonded%20magnet

5, record 81, French, - polysulfone

Venting. When the hot plastic is injected into the mold it displaces air. In a well-built, properly clamped mold without vents, the injection material may compress the air. The heat of compression might burn the material. The force of the compression might open the mold, causing flash. The resistance of the compressed air might prevent the mold from completely filling. These problems are alleviated by used of vents, which are usually ground on the parting line. Their size depends on the nature of the material and the size of the cavity. 2, record 87, English, - venting

The condensate that forms in the dryer cylinders is removed by a specially-designed syphon assembly.... at the high speeds of modern paper machines, the condensate layer has become so immobilized that even a very thin layer is a significant impediment to heat flow. Fortunately, the condensate layer still has some peripheral motion at high machine speed. This motion can be converted into a wave action by means of "dryer bars" attached axially to the interior surface of the dryer cylinder. This wave action(called "sloshing") greatly decreases the thermal resistance of the rimming condensate, and thus allows an increased rate of heat transfer. 1, record 92, English, - sloshing

Resistance to Temperature. ASTM Recommended Practice D 794 describes high-temperature testing for plastics. Only the procedure for heat exposure is specified, the test method being governed by the potential end use. Heat is applied using an oven with controlled air flow and with substantial fresh air intake. Two types of tests are described : continuous heat and cyclic heat. In the former, heat is gradually increased until failure occurs. Failure is defined as a change in appearance, weight, dimension, or other property that alters the material to a degree that it is no longer serviceable for the purpose in question. The test may take minutes to weeks, depending on the rate of temperature increase. The cyclic heat test repeatedly applied heat of a constant value until failure. 1, record 97, English, - continuous%20heat%20test

The cyclic heat test repeatedly applies heat of a constant value until failure. 1, record 98, English, - cyclic%20heat%20test

In fuel-burning furnaces, the combustion takes place within a metal-walled heat exchanger and the circulating air passes over the outside surfaces of the heat exchanger so that it does not contact the fuel or the products of combustion. The products of combustion are conveyed to the outside atmosphere through a flue or vent. 1, record 99, English, - fuel%2Dburning%20furnace

A warm air heating system, fueled by gas, electricity, oil or wood, does two jobs. First, heat is produced by burning the fuel in the combustion chamber or through electrical resistance. Second, heat is transferred through the heat exchanger and the distribution system to the living areas of the house. 2, record 99, English, - fuel%2Dburning%20furnace
