Mycomaterials are made from the mycelium or the mushroom fruit body of a fungi that is fused with a waste substrate. The substrate such as sawdust or hemp hurds provides nutrition for the fungi to develop a mycelium root network that bonds together the materials. Once it has finished growing the mycelium is heat treated to create an inert biocomposite material that is lightweight, thermally and acoustically insulating and fire resistant. 2, record 1, English, - mycomaterial

Synthetic felt is made from polyester or other man-made fibers that are combined, into felt material using a needle punch process or heat. It has a soft texture and is manufactured using different types of fibers to produce varying levels of harness and strength. [It] is commonly used for dunnage, anti-squeak applications, crating, filtration, padding, wipers, and a wide range of other applications. Because it is 100% synthetic, this material is highly mildew and wear resistant, and can withstand higher temperatures than wool felt. 2, record 4, English, - synthetic%20felt

Although no fabric is fireproof, certain textiles resist fire better than other fabrics. Fire-resistant fabric, also known as flame-retardant fabric, is so designated based on the time it takes for the fabric to burn. Fire-resistant fabric may be naturally fire resistant because of its natural fiber weave, or treated with a fire-resistant chemical to resist heat and flames. 8, record 5, English, - fire%2Dresistant%20fabric

Record number: 12, Textual support number: 1 CONT
Thermally tempered glass is glass that is strengthened by heat treatment. Relatively rapid cooling of the exterior surfaces of the glass results in residual compressive stresses at the glass surfaces. The case depth for thermally tempered glass is about 20 percent of the glass thickness. Thus, thermally tempered glass is fairly resistant to scratches and other minor surface damage. The amount of temper is defined by the magnitude of the residual compressive stress at the surface of the glass. Fully tempered glass has residual surface compressive stresses that exceed 13, 000 psi and are often as high as 25, 000 to 30, 000 psi. Fully tempered glass breaks into very small pieces when fractured. For transit applications thermally tempered glass is used to reduce the likelihood of lacerations whenever single-ply glass is required. 6, record 12, English, - thermal%20tempered%20glass

A solid-state metal joining process producing high-strength, defect-free joints in metallic materials. The process employs a pin tool with a low rotational speed and applied pressure that "mechanically stirs" two parent materials together to produce a uniform weld. 3, record 15, English, - friction%20stir%20welding
Record number: 15, Textual support number: 1 CONT
Friction stir welding uses a cylindrical, shouldered tool with a profiled pin that is rotated and slowly plunged into the joint line between two pieces of sheet or plate material, which are butted together. Frictional heat is generated between the wear resistant welding tool and the work piece. This heat causes the work piece material to soften without reaching the melting point and allows the tool to traverse the weld line. As it does, the plasticized material is transferred from the leading edge of the tool to the trailing edge of the tool shoulder and pin. It leaves a solid phase bond between the two work pieces. 2, record 15, English, - friction%20stir%20welding
