Self-sintering … was a process … to isolate and immobilize nuclear waste. The goal was to convert the waste to a glass that was resistant to leaching by water. The concept was to let the energy released by the radioactive decay of the waste heat … enough to drive off the water and eventually produce a solid, sintered glass product. … This technology was not advanced... 1, record 1, English, - self%2Dsintering

A glass that is heat-treated to have a higher tensile strength and resistance to blast pressures, although with a greater susceptibility to airborne debris. 5, record 2, English, - thermal%20tempered%20glass
Record number: 2, Textual support number: 1 CONT
Thermally tempered glass is glass that is strengthened by heat treatment. Relatively rapid cooling of the exterior surfaces of the glass results in residual compressive stresses at the glass surfaces. The case depth for thermally tempered glass is about 20 percent of the glass thickness. Thus, thermally tempered glass is fairly resistant to scratches and other minor surface damage. The amount of temper is defined by the magnitude of the residual compressive stress at the surface of the glass. Fully tempered glass has residual surface compressive stresses that exceed 13, 000 psi and are often as high as 25, 000 to 30, 000 psi. Fully tempered glass breaks into very small pieces when fractured. For transit applications thermally tempered glass is used to reduce the likelihood of lacerations whenever single-ply glass is required. 6, record 2, English, - thermal%20tempered%20glass

Although heat treated(strengthened) glass is more resistant to heat induced stress, wind-loads and impacts by wind-borne debris, it generally is not considered a fire resistant glazing, nor is it accepted as a safety glazing product as it tends to break in a similar way to regular annealed glass. 1, record 4, English, - glazing%20product
