HEAT SPACER [6 records]

Record 1 2011-12-22

English

Subject field(s)
  • Nuclear Fission Reactors
  • Nuclear Power Stations
CONT

The present invention relates to a modular nuclear fuel element, which can be adapted by an assembly system allowing it to be used in different nuclear power plants with horizontal and vertical cooling channels. The module is a cluster of parallel fuel rods mounted as circular concentric crowns and supported by a structural system. It has a single diameter fuel rod array where the ratio of the heat transfer area to the transverse rod area is higher than 330. It also has self-supporting fuel element spacer grids, which are collapsible sheaths attached to them with fewer than 13 welded end stoppers.

CONT

The Long Spacer, measuring 8. 5 by 4. 9 by 4. 9 m, performs two major functions. It physically separates the P6 solar arrays from the P4 solar arrays when the P6 is located in its permanent position, and it will provide temporary cooling to the US laboratory Destiny when it arrives at the ISS [International Space Station] in 2001. The cooling system uses ammonia as a working fluid and can eject 14, 000 watts of heat per orbit.

CONT

The P6 integrated truss structure is made up of three elements: the Photovoltaic Array Assembly, the Integrated Equipment Assembly, and the Long Spacer.

OBS

  • Doors, Windows and Openings (Building Elements)
CONT

The term "Warm Edge Technology"(WET) was introduced after the development of insulated spacer bars, which are intended to improve the thermal performance of the edge of sealed insulating glass(IG) units. WET focuses on an area of the glass that extends about 63 mm above the sight line of the IG perimeter. From the viewpoint of thermal performance, WET aims to add more resistance to heat flow from the warm side to the cold side of the glazing, thereby enhancing both the condensation resistance and the thermal resistance of the unit.

CONT
