In SGMD [sweeping gas membrane distillation],..., inert gas is used to sweep the vapor at the permeate membrane side to condense outside the membrane module. There is a gas barrier, like in AGMD [air gap membrane distillation], to reduce the heat loss; but this is not stationary, which enhances the mass transfer coefficient. The present invention relates to a modular nuclear fuel element, which can be adapted by an assembly system allowing it to be used in different nuclear power plants with horizontal and vertical cooling channels. The module is a cluster of parallel fuel rods mounted as circular concentric crowns and supported by a structural system. It has a single diameter fuel rod array where the ratio of the heat transfer area to the transverse rod area is higher than 330. The compression tank differs from the expansion tank of the obsolete gravity systems in this characteristic of maintaining system pressure. The compression tank is open only to the system water, whereas the gravity expansion tank was open to atmosphere as well as to the system, and consequently had to be located higher than the highest radiator. The compression tank may be located anywhere, although tank size decreases with increasing height above the boiler.
